This is my last post here at FNsports. Hey I tried, but I just couldn't keep it up. The field negro blog, my legal career, and various community involvements, have made it almost impossible for me to keep up with this blog.

I have learned that I love politics even more than sports, (which is saying something) and as a result, sports just doesn't inspire me to post about it over here anymore.

So play hard, play fair, and always watch the score.

That was a great Super Bowl game. Finally a game that lived up to all the hype.

I was at a Super Bowl party, but I left at halftime. There were quite a few Obamaholics there (the "O" man was in Delaware today by the way), but sometimes I just want to watch the game and not talk politics.

I guess the Spytriots won't be making history after all, and it couldn't have happened to a bunch of nicer guys.

The only down side of all this is that I will have to listen to these stinking Giant's fans here in Philly for the next year.

Here are some more of my thoughts:

All the commercials pretty much sucked. Except of course for the one with Naomi Campbell (I don't even remember what it was for) where she was dancing with those lizards.

Doesn't Jordin Sparks and Alicia Keys make the whole melting pot thing seem like a pretty good idea?

I lked Joe Buck's hook up. And I feel bad for Randy Moss, I would love to see him get a ring before his career is over.

I could watch that catch by David Tyree over and over again.

I think I won a square in my office pool. Of course I will be giving the money to charity.......OK that's bullshit, I will be spending that bad boy on lunch this week.

Doesn't the MVP, Eli Manning, remind you of Gomer Pyle?

Finally, let's hope that next year my "Iggles" will be holding up that Vince Lombardi Trophy.

A couple of things

since last night, and I feel a need to get the shit off my chest before I head out to my nine to five plantation.

First, I heard former NFL great Jim Brown on a local sports talk radio program last night, and I am going to have to revoke Jim's field Negro card for now. The shit he said about the Rutgers basketball dust up with Don Imus wasn't cool, and although I have some respect left for Mr. Brown, I have to call him on it. Mr. Brown basically said that the Rutgers controversy was no big deal, and he thought Don Imus was basically right. He thought the women from Tennessee were pretty and the ones from Rutgers were not. Brown went on to take issue with the modern African American athlete and their apathy towards political ans social issues (we agree on that one) and was all over Tiger Woods (more on him in a minute) for the way he handled this latest...ahem ahem, little racial problem in A-merry-ca. To Brown, the Golf Chanel's host an dher lynching comment is far more serious than the Rutgers incident and should have be treated as such.

Again, I think Brown was a great player, and I love the work he did with inner city gangs in L.A. But Jim never had the greatest reputation when it comes to the treatment of women, and I think some of his previous issues might have tainted his perspective here.
Now the second thing that keeps bothering me, is this shit with Tiger and the Golf Channel. I honestly thought the shit was over. Girlfriend got suspended for two weeks, Tiger's sorry ass basically said through his agent that it was no big deal, and A-merry-ca was ready to move on.
But then some dumb ass Golf magazine chooses to put a noose on their cover, and Tiger, being Tiger, felt the need to make yet another statement saying it's no big deal ("Kelly [Tilghman]is a friend and I saw no malicious intent in her remark..."). Yeah whatever Tiger. I used to cheer for your sorry ass in all those tournaments, because I admired your skills. But fuck you! I hope you never win another tournament on the PGA Tour. And real field Negroes like Vijay Singh, out drives and out putts your sorry ass every weekend from here on out.

Oh, and another thing, can we get another spokes person besides Al Sharpton for these types of issues? I think he is becoming irrelevant.

I'm off to fight this Philly traffic.

Can someone put a fork in the Sixers please? What is it now six in a row we have lost? But what the hell, let's just shoot for a number one pick at this point.

So the Spytriots are 17-0, that's impressive. Even though I know they caught some breaks along the way (think poor referees) but you have to be good to be in a position to win in the first place. I really thought Jacksonville had a shot at beating them last night, but they hung tough and won. I am starting to believe more and more than Green Bay might be legit. That rookie running back of theirs is the real deal. And Favre looks like he is enjoying throwing to his own players again.

I wonder how those fans down in "blue grass" country feel now that their Wildcats are 7-7? Be careful what you wish for is all I have to say about that. You ran Tubby out of town for this?

I still think Memphis and not North Carolina is the best college basketball team in the country. Derrick Rose is the real deal and is the best point guard in the country. (Sorry Me. Gordon) Don't sleep in UCLA or (god I hate to say this) Duke either.

Congrats on winning the National Championship LSU! My wife is an alum, so I will give you your props. I suspect that there will more where those came from in the coming years. Go on ahead and put yourself up there with Oklahoma, Michigan, and Ohio State as college power houses in this country. (Notice Penn State is not on that list) Your incoming freshmen class looks good!

Speaking of good looking freshmen classes; Notre Dame probably the best incoming class in the country. Now if Charlie Wies can't win this crop we will know that he is a fraud for sure.

I know you are from Nebraska, but moving to Utah has got to be hard on you.

I must say that I love all the points in these bowl games. I guess West Virginia were for real. You just can't coach speed folks. If it were not for that stumble against Pitt, we might be crowning them National Champs and not LSU or Ohio State. Pat White will play on Sundays. Maybe not as a quarterback, but he will play.

I think Roger Clemens is lying. First he didn't shoot up, then he did. Why would you have to shoot up painkillers and B-12 vitamins? Come on "Rocket" you are better than that. And my advise to you would be to plead the fifth when you go before congress. Marion Jones and Barry Bonds could be heading to jail because they did not listen to that advise.

I caught the Nevada New Mexico bowl game yesterday, and WTF is up with those ugly unis the wolf pack wear?

Come on guys, you are trying to build your program, not tear it down. You can't attract recruits with those ugly duds. Players like to look good on Saturdays too.

Of course I am not one to talk; as an Eagles fan, I am still trying to get over those ugly ass throw backs my team sported against the Lions earlier this year.

And for you soccer fans out there/ New Castle United still gets the nod for the ugliest unis with their ugly ass prison striped black and whites. The look like eleven referees running around out there. Putrid!

Finally, can somebody beat the Patriots please?

Now that the Mitchell Report is finally out about steroid use in baseball, we will finally get to see what a bunch of hypocrites A-merry-can sports writers are. Remember how every one and their mama vilified Barry Bonds, and when they weren't doing that they were making fun of him? And remember how only Dick Cheney was less popular last summer as Bonds went after baseball's most hallowed record?

They said it was because he cheated; he didn't play by the rules like everyone else; he had an unfair advantage. Well now that we know that a bunch of other people were cheating too, including A-merry-ca's baseball darling, "The Rocket", I wonder if we will hear the same outcry from here on out?

Of course we won't. All we will hear and read about is a bunch of sports writers bemoaning the fact that this report had to come out in the first place. They will make all kinds of excuses for their darlings like Roger Clemens who got caught, but you won't hear about or read anyone saying that maybe, just maybe, Barry Bonds was doing what everyone else was; including all star pitchers. Hey, I am from Philly, and you would have a hard time convincing me that damn near everyone on that 1993 Philies team wasn't juiced up. But instead A-merry-ca picked on Bonds. Why? Because he was the surly non smiling, angry black man, that's why. If he could only have laughed and smiled like Sammy.

So they next few days should be fun. I will enjoy watching these guys moon walk away from this one like Michael Jackson before all the nose jobs. And here is one field Negro who hopes there is no asterisk beside all those Barry Bonds records. Because given all that was going on around him; those records were broken fair and square.

I swear sometimes I am ashamed to be a part of Eagle Nation. These moronic fans screamed all week for A.J. Feeley to start and today he did. Well I hope you are happy with his four picks today. Two of them ending in touchdowns for the Hawks and one of them ending the game and probably the season for the birds.

The next time you morons go screaming for Donovan's head on a platter, just remember A.J.'s performance today.

And do the Cowpokes and T.O. look good or what? I swear the Eagles f****d up when they let him go.

$500,000! No wonder the folks in white had nation wanted to keep Jo Pa's salary a secret. I mean how cheap can you get? This is big time college football (Saben is getting 5 million at Bama) and you stiff the old man for half a million stinking dollars? No wonder he has been so cranky lately.

And speaking of college football, it looks like it might be LSU and Ohio State in the National Championship game, not sure what to think of that except if there was a season that we needed a playoff system this is it.

Finally, congrats to the Celtics. I didn't know this little three headed experiment could work, but it looks like it's working just fine. Let's just see if those old legs can keep this up throughout the season.

Well, you will be missed. You were a class act that made a believer out of this sceptic about the potential of American soccer. You personified class on and off the pitch, and MLS soccer will be losing a great ambassador.

You could have played in Europe for bigger bucks, but you stayed here and carved out a glorious career.

Not bad for a kid from a small town in North Carolina.

Well it's official, my Eagles really do stink!

That performance against Dallas in front of a national T.V. audience was disgraceful. I am now officially joining the crazed Eagle Nation mob calling for Coach Reid's big head.
Sorry, the man has got some serious problems at home (Both sons in jail) and I think it's beginning to become a distraction. In case you missed it; even the Judge in Reid's sons case dressed down the coach and his wife, calling the Reid home a literal "drug emporium" and chastising the couple for a lack of supervision.

But honestly,the Eagles have been not only bad on the field, but they have been making bad draft choices as well, (They just cut a second round draft choice) so it's over.

Speaking of over, the Sixers were over before the season even started. And did you see that their first round draft choice has been moved to the "D"league? I was screaming for them to get the kid from Florida State but they ignored me and every other fan in this city and picked Thad Young, now looked what that got us.

And since I am killing Philly teams, I might as well go for the trifecta. The Phillies refuse to even consider bidding for A-Rod, yet one of their six owners just sold his cigar company for almost three billion. Yes, you read that correctly; THREE BILLION WITH A B. But they can't come up with 30 million for A-Rod? Give me a fucking break. And we are supposed to start next season with Wes stinking Helms at third base? I don't think so.

Oh well, such is life in Philly, doomed to a life of being a second rate city, trapped between New York and Washington. And until we get some owners with some vision around here, who will stop looking at this town as if it was Mayberry RFD, we will be nothing but a bunch of mediocre losers.

"You get one NFL Truth today. Watching Chad Johnson and Larry Johnson undermine their respective head coaches, Marvin Lewis and Herm Edwards, on Sunday gave me a singular focus, forced me to contemplate an uncomfortable truth.
African-American football players caught up in the rebellion and buffoonery of hip hop culture have given NFL owners and coaches a justifiable reason to whiten their rosters. That will be the legacy left by Chad, Larry and Tank Johnson, Pacman Jones, Terrell Owens, Michael Vick and all the other football bojanglers.

In terms of opportunity for American-born black athletes, they're going to leave the game in far worse shape than they found it.

It's already starting to happen. A little-publicized fact is that the Colts and the Patriots — the league's model franchises — are two of the whitest teams in the NFL. If you count rookie receiver Anthony Gonzalez, the Colts opened the season with an NFL-high 24 white players on their 53-man roster. Toss in linebacker Naivote Taulawakeiaho "Freddie" Keiaho and 47 percent of Tony Dungy's defending Super Bowl-champion roster is non-African-American. Bill Belichick's Patriots are nearly as white, boasting a 23-man non-African-American roster, counting linebacker Tiaina "Junior" Seau and backup quarterback Matt Gutierrez.

For some reason, these facts are being ignored by the mainstream media. Could you imagine what would be written and discussed by the media if the Yankees and the Red Sox were chasing World Series titles with 11 African-Americans on their 25-man rosters (45 percent)?
We would be inundated with information and analysis on the social significance. Well, trust me, what is happening with the roster of the Patriots and the Colts and with Roger Goodell's disciplinary crackdown are all socially significant.

Hip hop athletes are being rejected because they're not good for business and, most important, because they don't contribute to a consistent winning environment. Herm Edwards said it best: You play to win the game.

I'm sure when we look up 10 years from now and 50 percent — rather than 70 percent — of NFL rosters are African-American, some Al Sharpton wannabe is going to blame the decline on a white-racist plot.

That bogus charge will ignore our role in our football demise. We are in the process of mishandling the opportunity and freedom earned for us by Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Doug Williams, Mike Singletary, Gale Sayers, Willie Lanier and countless others. And those of us in the media who have rationalized, minimized and racialized every misstep by Vick, Pacman and T.O. have played an equal role in blowing it.

By failing to confront and annihilate the abhorrent cultural norms we have allowed to grab our youth, we have in the grand American scheme sentenced many of them to hell on earth (incarceration), and in the sports/entertainment world we've left them to define us as unreliable, selfish and buffoonish.

I take you to Arrowhead Stadium this past Sunday when two competent and respected black head coaches led the Chiefs and the Bengals in battle, and their efforts were periodically sabotaged by Chad and Larry Johnson, the two players Lewis and Edwards have defended the most.

Football fans are aware of Lewis' love affair with Chad Johnson, the Flavor Flav of the gridiron. Johnson's insistence on conducting a minstrel show during games has long been reluctantly tolerated by Lewis. Johnson, I guess, is just too talented, productive and well-compensated for Lewis to discipline. So Lewis has chosen to enable, going as far as making excuses when Johnson's selfish behavior extended to an alleged locker-room shoving match with coaches (including a swing at Lewis) at halftime of the Bengals' Jan. 8, 2006 playoff loss to the Steelers.
Coming off an 11-5 regular season and having been crowned the toast of Cincinnati, Lewis responded to that Johnson meltdown by vowing to cut the player who leaked the fight information to the media.

Since then, the Bengals have been one of the league's biggest disappointments, finishing 8-8 last season and starting 1-4 this season. Injuries have played a significant role in Cincy's troubles, but so has a lack of on- and off-field discipline and focus. Lewis' coddling of Chad Johnson has destroyed the chemistry that made the Bengals a playoff team in 2005.
On Sunday, with the Bengals trying to rally out of a two-score deficit, Johnson failed to finish a pass route, which contributed to Carson Palmer throwing an interception.

Not to be outdone, Larry Johnson continued his season-long pattern of immature behavior, spiking the football in frustration with 4 minutes to play and the Chiefs attempting to run out the clock. The Bengals were out of timeouts and the spike stopped the clock, giving Cincy one last chance to make a comeback.

Johnson, despite receiving a new $45-million contract, has brooded, pouted and complained all season. He spent the off-season promising to be a leader and has spent the first six weeks of the season spreading locker-room cancer. Edwards-coached teams have traditionally been the least-penalized squads in the NFL. This year's Chiefs are one of the most-penalized squads. Nickel back Benny Sapp drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Sunday, had to be dragged off the field by Donnie Edwards, and was spotted on the sideline arguing with players and coaches.

Race is not the determining factor when it comes to having a good or bad attitude. Culture is.
Hip hop is the dominant culture for black youth. In general, music, especially hip hop music, is rebellious for no good reason other than to make money. Rappers and rockers are not trying to fix problems. They create problems for attention.
That philosophy, attitude and behavior go against everything football coaches stand for. They're in a constant battle to squash rebellion, dissent and second opinions from their players.
You know why Muhammad Ali is/was an icon? Because he rebelled against something meaningful and because he excelled in an individual sport. His rebellion didn't interfere with winning. Jim Brown, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, etc. rebelled with dignity and purpose.

What we're witnessing today are purposeless, selfish acts of buffoonery. Sensible people have grown tired of it. Football people are recognizing it doesn't contribute to a winning environment.
Whether calculated or not, the Patriots and the Colts have created settings in which Brady and Manning can lead and feel comfortable. I remember back in the 1980s when some black sports fans accused the Celtics of being racist for having a predominantly-white roster when Larry Bird was the star. No one remembered that Red Auerbach occasionally fielded an all-black starting lineup during Bill Russell's heyday.

My point is that it makes sense to cater to your stars. And it makes even more sense to fill your roster with players who don't mind being led, even if you sacrifice a little 40-yard dash speed.
If things don't change quickly, we're going to learn this lesson the hard way. "

But I suspect many of these North American female track and field athletes have been cheating for awhile. (Flo Jo anyone?) And we used to rip the old East German athletes.

Ahhh the delicate little problem that is race in America. It used to be that the one place we could get away from all this racial talk was on the athletic field. But now, I am not so sure. Vick,O.J., Bonds, NFL players behaving badly, and even "5" calling out the fans in Philly and American sports fans in general, for viewing African American QB's a little differently than the more melanin challenged ones in their fraternity. The racial hits just keep coming in even the sports world now. Geez, what is America to do? If we can't use sports to escape our real issues---like this damn war for instance---where else are we going to turn? I mean, after all, we can only look at Paris Hilton's narrow behind for so long.

And did I mention Isiah? Yes, it seems "Zeke" (His nickname from his playing days) was sued recently by an African American sister for creating a hostile working environment for her. The sister alleges in her complaint, that Thomas constantly referred to her in private as a bitch and a hoe. Now as a result, she is seeking serious damages from the Knick executive, and his organization. If Thomas was ignorant and insensitive enough to do what this woman is alleging, well, then, I hope the sister breaks the bank. If he didn't....(I am thinking of a Kanye West song here) Apparently allot of nasty things have already came out in this trial, (I am hereby revoking Stephan Marbury's field Negro status for his little ep, in his Jeep with that intern) and I suspect there will be more to come. I saw clips of Isiah's deposition today, and his statements about white men calling African American bitches, as opposed to black men using the "B" word was rather...how do I say this kindly? Strange. I mean, on some levels I understand what he was saying, I am sure on just a gut level it would piss me off more if I saw or heard a white man call one of my sisters a bitch. (Too much history and pain there, so I know it would affect me) Now fortunately for me, and the person who would have said it, I have never witnessed such a thing, and I doubt it many real brothers have. ( You don't think there were any real brothers around in Durham that night do you?) But I have to take issue with Isiah for seeming to imply that it's cool for "us" to call our women bitches. By saying there is a different standard, he seems to be implying that some "bitch" calling is better than others. It's not.

But this has already become an issue in the white blogosphere, and with the usual suspects like FAKE NEWS. "Why is there a different standard for calling a woman a bitch? I swear these arrogant athletes, not only are they racist, but they are sexist as well."

I know one thing, I hope O.J. won't think all the people converging on Jena , Louisiana Thursday will be there to protest his latest arrest. Unfortunately, knowing O.J., he probably will.

Is Roger Goodell a joke or what? The penalty he imposed on that cheater,Bill Belichick, and the New England Parrots is a joke. $500,000 and some stinking draft picks? Are you kidding me? The lose a first rounder if they make the playoffs, but guess what? They have two number one picks for 2008, so in essence, the lose nothing.

Can you imagine if these were players the league caught cheating? They would have been three and four game suspensions at least.

The Commissioner should be ashamed of himself, and I would say the same about Belichick, but he has no shame.

Speaking of having no shame; you gotta love what his happening to the Irish Nation. All I can say is; after what you did to that classy Ty Wllingham, you deserve every thing you get with this fraud of a team. I love it, 0-3 and counting, if there is a God, the Irish will lose every single game this year.

Hail to the Victors?

"Hail to the victors" my ass. Yes, I am just now getting around to posting this, and I really don't have much to say. I mean what could I possibly say that hasn't already been said?

Michigan, your performance was disgraceful, there is just no other way to put it. You just don't lose at home to Appalachian State, a program that is not even supposed to be playing with the big boys at the 1-A level. I don't care if they won ten national championships in Division 1-AA , they shouldn't be able to beat you at home, away, on the moon, wherever.

All I can say is Lloyd Carr is toast now. And not only because of this embarrassment (from number 5 in the AP poll, to not even being in the top 25) but also because he is 1-5 against Ohio State. That is just not supposed to happen in Wolverine Nation. I guarantee you that if Carr was 5-1 against the Buckeyes their wouldn't be cries for his scalp now.

I have always said that the Big Ten is too slow, and it showed last Saturday. That QB from Ap. State was runnning away from Michigan defenders like he stole Bo Schembechler's head stone.

But believe it or not, that wasn't the best thing that happened Saturday. No, it was watching Fat Charlie and his stinking domers get hosed by Georgia Tech at home. Charlie, no wonder you wouldn't name your starting QB, they all stunk. The freshman is the best of the bunch so you mighty as well go with him. Mmmm, all of a sudden you ain't looking like such a genius now are you? See what having good players can do Charlie? I hoped you enjoyed playing with all Tyrone Willingham's talent last year, because I am guessing that it could be awhile before you see that kind of talent again.

And finally, I have a request to make: Please America, no more Payton Manning!

A sad ending to a troubled life.

It was a sad day in Sharon Hill Pennsylvania yesterday. A bright star with a troubled past was put to rest.

Everyone has heard by now how former NBA player,Eddie Griffin, drove his SUV into a train in Houston Texas. An accident so horrific, that it took days to identify his six foot ten inch frame. There wasn't even any skid marks at the scene.

Griffin always had potential, but he had a troubled NBA career, bouncing from team to team, and struggling with substance abuse problems. The news always focused on Griffin's problems, such as his volatile temper which got him suspended from Roman Catholic High School, and a fight that got him kicked off his college basketball team at Seton Hall.

But there was a warm side to Griffin too, and many people here in Philly talk about a real good soft spoken kid with a big heart. I remember a buddy of mine watching the Philadelphia high school catholic league championship game a few years ago, and raving about how good Griffin was. But something bothered him about Griffin even then. Even though he was doing some serious balling on the court, his head didn't seem to be really in the game. And after the game, when his teammates were dancing around the court in jubilation, Griffin seemed disinterested and distant, and didn't even seem to want to participate in the celebrations. My buddy said it then: "Something isn't right with that kid" Boy was he right.

But it was a nice and fitting funeral. Former teammates (such as Kevin Garnett) coaches, family, and his former counselor, John Lucas, were all there. Everyone talked about the sad tragedy of a talented and kind young man who lost is life all too soon.

On a lighter note; I see Tyson Gay beat my man Asafa Powell in the 100 meters at the world championships in Japan. Congrats to the American for a nice win. Now let's see if my man Asafa, can get his shit together in time for the Olympics.

On the women's side; my home girl, Veronica Campbell, beat the American, Lauryn Williams in a very close race. Nice revenge for that 1993 win by Gail Devers over Merlene Ottey. (Yes I still haven't gotten over it) Devers beat Ottey by 001 seconds in that heart breaker.

"ALBANY, N.Y. - Tiki Barber wanted a more intense, fiery Eli Manning. The New York Giants quarterback gave Tiki what he wanted in a loud ripping voice on Tuesday.
Two days after being criticized on national television by Barber for a lack of strong leadership, Manning ripped his former teammate and current NBC football analyst for distracting the team last season with his early retirement announcement and his criticism of coach Tom Coughlin.
'I guess I'm just happy for Tiki that he's making a smooth transition into the TV world,' Manning said. "You know, I'll be interested to see if he has anything to say (about a team) besides the Giants, and what his comments will be on that."

Normally reserved and never one to criticize a coach or teammate, Manning seemed to enjoy going after Barber, the Giants' all-time leading rusher who retired after last season at age 31 to pursue a television career.
Speaking during the halftime show of the Sunday Night Football game between the Giants and Baltimore Ravens, Barber had said that Manning's attempt to lead an offensive meeting in the 12th week of the last season was "comical" at times.
Manning didn't find the comment funny.

'It's just one of those deals. I'm not going to lose any sleep about what Tiki has to say,' Manning said. "I guess I could have questioned his leadership skills last year with calling out the coach and having articles about him retiring in the middle of the season, and he's lost the heart (to play).

'As a quarterback you're reading that your running back has lost the heart to play the game and it's about the 10th week," Manning said. "I can see that a little bit at times. But I'm not going to get concerned. I'm going to go out there and play ball.'

Barber was not immediately available for comment.
Giants teammates came to Manning's defense on Tuesday.
Wide receiver Amani Toomer, who played his entire career with Barber, was stunned.
'I thought Tiki and Eli were pretty good friends,' Toomer said. "It's kind of strange to have him say something like that and to make a point of it like that. Maybe he had somebody else in his ear kind of coaxing him into saying stuff, because I don't believe he really believes that. I don't know why he'd say something like that.'

Manning's father, Archie, said at a charity bowling event in Indianapolis for his other son, Super Bowl MVP Peyton, that he had not counseled the Giants quarterback on how to handle the situation.

'He talked to me a while ago and said Tiki got after him a little bit the other night, and he said it's not a big deal," Archie Manning said. ' He told me a whole lot of people in the Giants organization were proud of what he said.

'Eli's not a controversial guy and he's not going to be. I feel like if Eli did something like that, it would come from his heart.'
Center Shaun O'Hara said that Manning is progressing as a leader, especially for a fourth-year player. 'I don't have any problems with Eli's leadership and the way he does it,' O'Hara said. 'He's doing it his way. I think players appreciate that. It's a shame everybody wants Eli to be somebody they think he should be instead of just letting him be himself.'

O'Hara noted that Manning might be under the microscope more than most young quarterbacks because he is the brother of Peyton Manning. 'For me, you can be Johnny Rah-Rah, but if you're not doing your job, if you're not pulling your weight, it doesn't matter what you say," O'Hara said. "Being loud, that doesn't make you a great leader.'

Tackle David Diehl said Manning showed his leadership Sunday night, getting the offensive lined up right when the Ravens threw a couple of new looks at them on defense.
Giants new quarterback coach Chris Palmer added that Manning does everything a coach wants.
'Everybody leads in a different way," Palmer said. 'If you buy any business books, there are 101 ways to lead. He'll lead in his own particular fashion.'

While Barber praised Manning at times for his play, he also questioned whether he could be a leader of men and make plays when the chips were down.
'His personality hasn't been so that he can step up, make a strong statement and have people believe that it's coming from his heart,' Barber said on the show.
Barber then told the story about Manning being uncomfortable talking to the offense in Week 12.

'He didn't feel like his voice was going to be strong enough and it showed,' Barber said. 'Sometimes it was almost comical the way that he would say things.'
While Barber rushed for 1,662 yards last season, the second highest single-season total in Giants history, he also was a distraction in an 8-8 season that saw the Giants make the playoffs.
He went on record in early October saying that the 2006 season would probably be his last. He also created problems for Coughlin when he criticized him for pulling away from the running game too soon in a loss to Jacksonville in November.
It was the second time he went after his head coach.

After a playoff loss to Carolina in 2005, Barber said Coughlin was outcoached by Panther coach John Fox, a former Giants assistant. While Coughlin refused to get involved in the controversy, he was happy Manning defended himself.

'Well, he thought about what he was going to do, and he decided he would say exactly what he felt," Coughlin said. "More power to him.' "

As an Eagles fan, this is a sad day for me, because the Trot man-Jeremiah Trotter-was given his release today. OK, that's a nice way of saying he was cut.

I sure hope the birds know what they are doing. From all accounts had lost more than a few steps, and teams were exploiting him when he was on the field. But the guy was a real leader in the locker room, and was a pretty good run stopper against North and South runners.

So Andy, I hope you know what you are doing, and I hope Omar Gaither will be able to step in. If not, I am afraid that those stinking Giants up the turn pike will have the last laugh.

So Tiger hangs on to win his 13th major in 100 degree heat. The guy was just making pars all day and it was still enough to win. The more I watch Woods, the more I have to wonder if there aren't guys on the tour with just as much talent. The problem is, no one has that laser like focus and the determination that he does.

Do you see what usually happens to guys that play with him when he is in contention on a Sunday? They fold like a dress shirt in a Macy's display. Today some poor Canadian guy had to take his lumps under the scrutiny, and it was sad to watch. "Big Easy" (Ernie Els) made it fun for a minute, but you just knew it was Wood's day all along.

Nice to see that Roger Federer is human too. He finally lost a tournament today in Montreal to a guy with a name I can't even remember. Still, he is my favorite to win the U.S. Open.

Can anyone stop the Yankees? I promise you that if you asked people in Boston right now, if they would be happy just to make the playoffs as a wild card team, they would say yes. Why, because everyone in Beantown knows that the Yankees will catch them and take the division, that's why. Then they will have to hold off Seattle, Detroit, or Cleveland just to make the playoffs.

It should be a fun September.

To all the Bonds haters out there, consider this: Before 1998, he had 3 MVP awards, 8 all star appearances, and 8 gold glove awards. So excuse me if he put up freakish home run numbers after 1998, when he was supposedly on the juice. I am going to guess that quite a few players doing that time period were juicing, including the happy twins; Sosa, and McGuire, not to mention a few pitchers. (Some quite famous ones included) Oh, and if we are going to put an asterisk next to Bond's accomplishments, why don't we just put one next to every payer who played before 1947? But somehow I doubt that will happen, because we are such hypocrites in America, and our memory can be so selective.

So America, get over the hateration [like that word woozie?] of Bonds. We know it's because he is supposedly a jerk, and not fan friendly, and he is mean to sports writers. Who gives a shit? Yeah that Ty Cobb was a real Prince charming wasn't he? The last time I checked, that racist jerk was in the Hall, and America still loves him.

If Bonds is not a first ballot Hall of Famer, it will say more about the frauds who run American sports than any steroid scandal ever could. I am just glad Hammering Hank acknowledged the whole thing via video, he was starting to come up pretty small.

I know players have been behaving badly of late, but now it seems some of those charged to control the games may be behaving badly as well.

Tim Donaghy is from my hometown of Philadelphia, and now finds himself under the gun so to speak. As it turns out the feds have been investigating some not too nice characters, and referee Tim was drawn into that net righ along with these other charecters. Now the question is; how many more are involved? I know the NBA is hoping that not even one more of their referees have this problem. Because if they do; then the pro game now has a serious issues. Much more serious than a few players behaving badly.

Dog days for Mr. Vick

No truth to the rumor that Nike dropped Michael Vick and Hush Puppy picked him up......I know white folks that wasn't funny.

But seriously, if this story with Vick and the dogs is true, he is cooked. America will never forgive him! He would have had a better chance of redemption if he had killed his wife like another famous football player did. I have blogged on the issue of white folks and their pets before, and if you thought I was lying, watch how this Vick thing plays itself out.

On my to work this morning it was all over AM radio stations. And I am not just talking about the sports shows. One guy actually called in and asked for the "death penalty" if it could be proven that Vick actually trained dogs to fight.

Now let me say for the record; I love dogs. If I had to make a choice between a dog and a cat it wouldn't even be close. They don't call them "man's best friends" for nothing. Still, I just don't get it with America and animals. There is so much hypocrisy involved with this entire situation that it's almost laughable. I can hear Joe "Sixpack" over the dinner table now: "Honey can you believe what this jerk did to those poor animals? The man should be put under the jail; how can you do that to a poor dog, another living thing for crying out loud? Ahhh could you pass the steak for me please?" Context America, context.

Sorry, I live in a city where 222 human beings like me have been murdered so far this year; so you will excuse me if I don't lose any sleep over Micheal Vick's fucking dogs.

As someone who loves to speak uncomfortable truths myself, I have to say that I have no problem with Gary Sheffield when he speaks his mind. Sheffield is to baseball, what Francis Holland has become to the blogosphere. I love the guys honesty, his blunt talk, and the way he can straight stroke a baseball. Believe me, as a long time Detroit Tigers fan (don't ask how) this is important to me.

So Gary Sheffield has been "stirring the pot" again. This time by calling out the Yankees and their Manager, Joe Torre, for their double standard when it comes to their treatment of black players. Sheffield, because of his abilities as a player, and because of his veteran status has been acting as an unofficial spokesperson for the African American players in Major League Baseball . His comments about the passive Latin players and baseball's more willingness to deal with them, was also controversial and drew criticism from a majority white sports public tired of hearing about race. They wish the talk of race in their beloved sports world would just go away like one of Sheffield's home runs deep into Tiger stadium.

But why should it? Why shouldn't Sheffield be able to speak his mind? Every great athlete who makes a Brinks Truck load of money can't be like Mike, or Magic, or, for that matter, Tiger. No, some people in America,regardless of how much money they make actually call bullshit when they see it. For the record, I despise Michael Jordon as a person. I think he is a sellout, and is someone who turned his back on his people so that little white boys in Iowa can have his posters on their walls, and little black boys in inner city America can kill and rob each other for his $150 branded sneakers. Now he spends his retirement running from golf course to golf course gambling away his money, and playing O.J. (think about it) from one resort to another. He and his side kick, the round mound of buffoonery, also known as Sir Charles, are beloved by white folks because they never say things to really make them (white folks) uncomfortable. Charles tries from time to time, but he is viewed more as a big joke, and is never taken seriously by anyone who listen to him. Sheffield, on the other hand, is viewed as an "angry black man" ---at least that's how one local sports talk show described him today--- and thus he makes white folks uncomfortable. The response to his statements are often swift and vitriolic. "The guy makes millions and he is still angry, Sheffield should just shut up and play, he makes good money what is he bitching about, he makes more money that I will ever see in my life, and I am white." (God forbid a black man does that) Nothing puzzles white folks more than a black man who makes a lot of money but still bitches about inequities in society. To them, money is the great equalizer and should cure all woes real and perceived. Sheffield was confronted with another popular comeback when the uncomfortable issue of race is raised. Well if the Yankees are so bad why is it that a black player -Derek Jeter- gets the mega star treatment from them. (If America is so bad for black people how come Oprah is so rich?) Sheffield's response was that Jeter wasn't "all the way black", that he is both "black and white" true statements because Jeter is the child of a mixed marriage. Yet I am sure he will be pillaged for that one as well.

Now let me say for the record that I don't know anything about what goes on behind the scenes with the Yankees or Joe Torre. Sheffield said that other black players had an issue with Torre because "they weren't treated like everyone else". They were called out and "disrespected" while the white players weren't. This may or may not have been true. But I will say this; if it is true I wouldn't be surprised. What, cause they are the Yankees they are above racism? Bullshit! When it comes to racism everybody is a fucking suspect.

So keep speaking your mind Mr. Sheffield, no matter how uncomfortable it makes people. The other field Negroes out here have your back, and we are glad you make other people uncomfortable. Hell they should be, America is an uncomfortable place, and baseball is as American as apple pie.

And here I thought the best thing that came out of Switzerland was their cheese. Mr. Federer, you are the truth. And probably the greatest tennis player ever. (Probably) You could make a good argument for about three others. --The man you tied today for five straight Wimbledon titles, Bjorn Borg, comes to mind.

Watching you and Nadal go at it this morning, makes me glad that I had "breakfast at Wimbledon." That was a classic five setter and no one deserved to lose. Let's hope that you both stay healthy for a long time to come.

It was also nice to see Venus take the women's singles title too. I hope everyone noticed that it was the 50th anniversary of Althea Gibson's singles title at the all England Club. Ms. Gibson, like Jackie Robinson, is a true trail blazer who doesn't get enough nearly credit for all she did for the game.

On another note, I see the Phillies are at 9,999 and one loss away from 10,000. Couldn't have happened to a bunch of nicer guys. I kid of course, I have never liked the Phillies. From their cheap ass ownership group, to their history of racism. (Last National league team to integrate) From Bill Giles, to Robert Carpenter, to Billy Baker. The team, like all their owners have always been pathetic. I wasn't around in 1964 when Chico Ruiz stole home which capped that infamous 10 game losing streak which cost them the pennant that year. But if I was, I would have cheered my head off. Just like I did when Joe Carter hit that blast off the "Wild Thing" which ended their shot at the World Series, which would have been only their second in 124 years.

Billy I Sure Hope You know What You Are Doing!

So the Sixers GM, Mr. Dukie himself, Billy King, selects Thaddeus Young from G-Tech with the 12th pick in the NBA draft. All I can say is that he better know what the hell he is doing, because I usually go with my gut with NBA drafts, and my gut is not feeling anything with this one. He might be a nice (and I mean just that, nice) player in the NBA one day, and I might live to regret these words, but somehow I don't think Mr. Young will be in the league in the next four years. I see where some scouting services are saying that if the Sixers are lucky he will turn out to be like Antwan Jamison; well dream on.

So Billy, you had a stud-Al Thornton who could come in and helped the Sixers right away and you select Young? The guy was rated the 26th best player in the draft for crying out loud! You had a pick at 20, and I bet you could have gotten him there. But you are a Dukie, so I know it's your mission in life to make me miserable. My only question would be this; why does Ed Snyder still have you around?

Now I will say this; I like Jason Smith from Colorado State, I think he will be a double double guy one day. But this Thaddeus Young pick really has me shaking my head. And then I see Seattle getting the fifth pick in the draft and some nice young players for Ray Allen, and I see what you got for A.I., who in my humble opinion is a better player, and I really have to say, just WTF are you thinking?

As I type this post, the Phillies are losing to the Metropolitans once again. (Jimmy I thought you guys were going to take the division this year?) That would be three in a row, and now they are six games behind the division leading Mets. I know they have had some injuries, but Pat Gillick should have done a better job getting the Phillies bull pen help this off season.

Poor Phils, I guess they have the most losses of any American sports franchise for a reason. Another summer of discontent for the poor Phillies fans. I have to work among these people, so believe me, this isn't easy for me either.

Boy where do I start, so much sports so little time.

Let me start by congratulating the Spurs for pulling out the broom on King James and his Cavs. (Sorry Cleavland, still no championship for you. What is it now, 40 years?And I thought we had it bad here in Philly)The problem with the Cavs is that King James had no back ups. I am sorry, but you ain't gonna win a championship with Eric Snow, Larry Hughes, and Donyell Marshall. They need to surround King James with some players like the Bulls did for MJ. But this isn't about the Cavs right now, it's about the Spurs. They have quietly built a dynasty. Four rings in nine years will get you that title.

I see Tiger came up a little short in the U.S. Open. I ain't mad at Tiger, he was grinding all day, and he gave it a hell of a run. I don't think we really appreciate how good Woods is. This cat is right there every Sunday, and there is no letting up in sight for him. I don't know, maybe now that homey is a father, he will drop back to the pack a little.

I caught my Tigers take two of three from my hometown Phils last weekend. One observation: The Tigers and the Phillies have the same problem; a week bull pen. They both have good hitting, decent fielding, and in the case of the Tigers, great pitching. But if there bull pens can't hold up, none of them will be playing come October.

And speaking of baseball, will the Yankees ever loser another game? The Red Sox better be glad they are playing lights out baseball themselves or the Yankees would have caught them already.

I am still trying to figure out who the Sixers should take in the draft. Although I think that now that Jeff Green has decided to go into the draft, I think they should seriously consider him. I also hear some people around here giving props to Thadeus Young from Georgia Tech. Apparently my mans workouts went pretty well. And I am glad that Philadelphia's Sean Singletary decided to go back to UVA. My man wasn't quite ready for prime time. He has got to work on that jump shot before he enters the NBA.

Finally, did LaVar Arrington learn anything from happened to Big Ben in Pittsburgh, and Jayson Williams in Chicago? Homeboy almost killed himself after he decided to take his motorcycle into a highway ramp in Maryland. Sadly for him, he was at the end of his career, and I doubt if he will ever suit it up again in the NFL. Let's face it; his career was pretty much over even before the accident.

And Kobe, please just shut up and play. Enough of you already!

MUSINGS FROM MY SPORTS PAGE

I wish I could say congrats to the Anaheim Ducks, but sorry, besides the fact that they knocked off my Red Wings, I refuse to acknowledge a team called the "Ducks". And people wonder why interest in hockey is dying. I think the Devon Horse Show got higher ratings than this years Stanley Cup playoffs.

I see Eric Snow is back in the NBA finals. He couldn't shoot when he was here with the Sixers, and he still can't. But at least this time he has King James as a side kick. I mean A.I. was nice, and I love the guy, but he ain't no LeBron. Still, I have to go with the Spurs. Too much experience and too much team defense. And I have seen Bruce Bowen shut down Kobe. Spurs in six!

So people are pissed at Gary Sheffield because he is speaking his mind. Now I don't agree with him, but the last time I checked this is America, and the man has a right to speak his damn mind. Besides, he plays for my Tigers, and he can straight stroke it. So please leave Gary alone; at least until he leaves Detroit.

Speaking of athletes people don't like; I caught the Barry Bonds show last weekend at Citizens Bank park, and he didn't go yard once. The skitzo Phillies were their usual up and down selves, but at least they kept Bonds in check.

R.I.P Howard Porter! I have never been a big Vanilla-Nova fan, but they are in the Big Five, and Jay Wright has done a lot to make them a part of Philly basketball, so I don't despise the boys from the main line as much as I used to. But back to Porter. He left Nova under a cloud, and he struggled with drug addiction. But when he met his tragic end in a St. Paul Minnesota alley way, he already seemed to have gotten his life in order and had beaten off his addictions. I saw some old film of some of his Big Five games and he [Porter] was a tremendous player. His battles with Lasalle's Kenny Durrett were classics.

Watching Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers as their chins dropped lower than their draft stock was priceless. Fifth? You get to pick fifth after damn near tanking an entire season just to get the number one pick?

But I love it for so many reasons. Number one, the hated Celtics will not get either Greg Oden, or Kevin Durant. And two, we won't have to see Greg Oden drop double doubles at the Wach for the next fifteen years. We will face him only a couple of times a year and that's a good thing.

Memo to Danny and Doc: Next time play every game during your season like it matters:)

So what do we do at number 12? Well readers of this blog know how I feel about that Dukie, Billy King, calling the shots for my Sixers. But since he will not be going anywhere anytime soon, I guess we are stuck with him making the pick.

So Billy,here is my suggestion:If Julian Wright or Alcie Law is sitting there when you pick ,take them. ( Slight edge to Law) I know we have Andre Miller, but trade Lou Williams (who might end up being a nice player in this league) and go with Law as Miller's back up for now. In the later rounds, go with the best scorer available. We still need points in the line up.

The dead wings broke my heart the other night. How can you lose to the Ducks? I thought the series was a wrap when the Wings had that 1-0 lead in "Hockey Town" during game five. And then..... Oh well, maybe next year. And yes this black man loves him some Red Wings.

LET'S KEEP IT REAL

I recently read Stephen A. Smith's column about a recent conference at Morehouse College which focused on African American Athletes and the reporters who cover them. Now let me say for the record; that I have never liked sports reporters. I consider most of them hypocrites and most of them are jealous of the people who play the games they cover.

So back to this conference. One of the panel discussions was hosted by Spike Lee, and some of the panel members included people like C. Vivian Stringer, Alonzo Mourning, and Jim Brown. Sadly, another panel member was the very hypocritical self hater, Jason Whitlock who caught an earful from those who were present. But as could have been predicted, most of the discussion centered on the recent behavior of many of our black athletes and the medias focus on them.

So here is where keeping it real comes in: Folks, we (black folks) have got to stop this bull sh**. I am so sick of the Pacman Jones, Michael Vick types with their ignorant ass off field behavior. When are these guys going to grow up and take responsibility for their actions? Listen, I know boys will be boys, and when you are young black and rich, you want to spend a little dough and have a little fun from time to time. I get that! But at some point you have to say to yourself; enough! I just can't be irresponsible anymore. I have a family and a race of people that are depending on me to behave properly and carrying myself in a respectful manner. When 39 of the 41 current athletes on the police blotter are black I have a problem with that sh**. And no, I can't blame whitey, I have to blame your ignorant asses.

Hey, I know racism might play a part in this, and I know we are not always treated fairly by the white (and black...well f**k it, Jason Whitlock might as well be considered white too)press that covers us. (See the recent kid gloves treatment of St. Louis pitcher, Josh Hancock who clearly had an alcohol problem) But I really have to take issue with those that always points the finger at the white press when we are caught doing wrong. And yes, having having uncared for pit bulls in your house trained for fighting is wrong. Driving under the influence of alcohol with a suspended driver's license is wrong. So please spare me the I am a victim of whitey speech.

And I agree with Stephen A. Smith when he says: "Any athlete resembling O.J. Simpson will happen again over white America's collective dead body." So wake up my brothers. As my Mamma used to say: "You better straighten up and fly right" Because we can only cry bad whitey for so long.

OK I just caught the Kentucky Derby. (All those ugly ass hats!)Every year I say I won't watch this thing, and I end up watching it anyway. But I am really loving the jockey who won it this year. This guy, Calvin Borel, was the genuine article and seemed really happy just to be there. I swear I didn't understand half of what he said which is cool, cause the guy really seemed sincere. We need more of that in sports. The horse that won it,"Street Sense", wasn't too shabby either. He ran from 19th place to run down the leader and run way with that bad boy. All, this from a two year old. Way to go there young buck!

Something about this NBA study about racism among the refs bothers me. Now for the record, I don't think any of those refs (black or white) are consciously prejudice. But I do believe that in those quick seconds that it takes to make a call, and in the heat of battle, certain human instincts take over. And those instincts might cause favoring someone that looks like you over the other guy. Now what bothers me, is how all these NBA players are declaring that these refs are not racist. Like how the f**k would they know? Here is the deal, these players ought to just shut their traps and play the game. No need to come out in support of these refs when you don't know a damn thing about what's in their hearts.

I just watch Barry Bonds stoke yet another home run off the Phillies. (744 and counting) At some point everyone in this country will have to recognize that Bonds is the greatest baseball player in our life time. Thirteen all star appearances and seven (yes seven) MVP titles don't lie. Yeah I know he was tainted by the steroid scandal, but so were many other players in baseball -including pitchers- and Bonds could bring it even when he was a skinny spray hitter in Pittsburgh.

Here is one field Negro who hopes that Bonds breaks hammering Hank's record. And Hank, by the way, is being bush league for saying he won't appear for the potential record breaking shot. Come on Hank, don't believe the hype. Barry can straight stoke it, and he deserves to break your record.

Speaking of Phillies, if they didn't try to do things on the cheap, they would probably be in a much better position right about now. They should have paid Billy Wagner the 11 million he wanted, and not cut corners and give Tom Gordon half of that. Now Gordon has already blown three saves this year, and due to injury problems is on the DL. And people why we can't win a championship in this city.

The Penn Relays was off the hook. 46,000 screaming track fans, (half of them Jamaicans) screaming their heads off for the U.S.A. against the world relay races. The scene is always electric over on U Penn's campus, and for those of you sports junkies who want to see a great sporting event; plan to make the trip to Philly next April and catch some of the greatest athletes and fans in the world.

OK, readers to this site know that I am a iggles fan. But what the f**k? The iggles spend their first pick in the draft on Kevin freaking Kolb, a QB from that powerhouse program known as the University of Houston. From what I hear, the guy is a system QB who isn't even a very accurate passer. And, the birds already have two back up QB's for McNabb all signed and ready to go. So why waste this pick, especially when there were quality players like my man Sidney Rice from South Carolina on the board. Mark it down, my man Sidney will be a 50 catch a year guy in this league.

Sometimes I really have to wonder about the Eagles. I honestly didn't mind trading down with the Cowboys, but to get this guy? Hell, he would have still been there in the third round if you ask me. So what's the deal?Were his workouts that good? Boy you really have to wonder about Andy Read and the Eagles. Maybe all the sh** with his sons in the off season is clouding his judgement. And people wonder why we haven't had a championship in this town in over 24 years.

Speaking of championships; I hope all the A.I. bashers are enjoying my man do his thing up in the "mile high" city this post season. This is the time of year when A.I. seems to get more energy and steps his game up. They might lose in the first round to the seasoned and well traveled Spurs, but I guarantee you, Denver will not be an easy out. The Frenchman will have his hands full all series long.

Hi my name is Pacman Jones, and I would like to apologize right now to all my fans for being an ignorant thug with lot's of talent but no head on my shoulders. I realize that my ignorant ass behavior helped to perpetuate the stereo type of the thuggish uneducated black athlete.

I realize that my behavior was abhorrent, what was I thinking trowing around over $8,000 in cash at a strip club, an act that cost a fellow human being the opportunity to ever walk again.

All my run ins with the law, where as a result of my own selfish and boorish behavior, and not the man trying to get me.

I realize that I have tremendous talents on the football field, but those talents should be carried over to the game of life as well. I realize that I need to get my act together, and start acting like a grown up and someone who has been blessed to make millions of dollars by playing the game that I love. I realize that I am a role model for many young people out there who might be growing up poor and disenfranchised just like I was.

I will serve my one year suspension with dignity, and will do community service with various organizations and community groups that cater to children.

Yes the Phillies still suck, and any day now they could fire their Manager. But home boy isn't going out without a bang; and Charlie Manuel now has a new fan in the field Negro.

Why you ask? well, it seems like my man went after the biggest charlatan this side of Barnum and Bailey, and faux sports reporter, Howard Eskin. Yes the old guy would have kicked his ass too. I know Manuel has about twenty years on Eskin, but he still would have kicked his ass.
I would have paid to see that shit! Eskin getting his arrogant ass kicked by a guy who has been in the AARP fir about thirty years now.

And let me tell you about Eskin for a minute and why that fraud gets on my nerves:
Gee where do I start? Well for starters, this dope said that John Cheney was the worse coach in the Big Five. Then he said that A.I. is an average basketball player and will not make the Hall Of Fame. Oh, and he thinks Randall Cunningham was a below average QB. This, because Cunningham never gave him the time of day, but then, neither did Cheney or AI. (Are you sensing a theme hear?) So yeah they guy is pretty much a fraud.

So good for you Charlie Manuel, the next time could you please actually kick Charles Barkley's butt boy's ass for the whole world to see? And the next time, Milt, please stay out of the way. Charlie could have really made some news today, and probably saved his job to boot.

Roy Halliday was dealing against my Tigers last night. Ten strong innings and a nice 2-1 win for his Jays. Ouch! But hey, that's alright, my Tigers will be alright this year, started off kind of week, but thanks to a goof Manager (here that Phillies) they will be in the thick of the AL Central race all season long.

Now speaking of the Phillies, sorry; I have no love for the "fightens", especially during this week, when we are all celebrating the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball. Sorry, I just can't forget that the Phillies were one of the last teams to integrate, and they gave Jackie Robinson (their Manager included) the most hell when he played here. Yep, I will never be a true Phils fan because of that. And I guarantee you that more than half of the black folks who were actually born and raised in Philly feel the same way that I do.

In fact, I remember when the Phils lost that World Series to the Blue Jays, I was with a large group of African Americans, who cheered like crazy when Joe Carter sent that "Wild Thing" pitch into the bleachers. I had just moved to Philly, and I couldn't understand it. One of the old heads in the group explained the Phils history to me, and why it was important that they lose. Besides, the make up of that particular team said "red necks" all the way, and Philadelphia's black population was not feeling them. Yeah the were beloved by their white fans, but despised by their black ones.

So don't expect any tears from the field now that the Phils are what, 2-9 now.

Oh well I guess Tiger is human after all. Homey was grinding all day yesterday at the Master's, and honestly, I thought he was finished before he even started for the back nine. But then there was that eagle, and I, like everyone else in America was thinking; OK here it comes.

But that Zach Johnson had some serious ice in his veins. That chip he made from the fringe of the sand on 18 was clutch. Home boy put the little white ball within a strong wind of the hole.

Game match set! And you have a first time winner of the Masters being a kid who had only won one previous PGA tournament. And what was the guy ranked, like 56th in the world? Hey, it just goes to show you, on any given Sunday. And it really makes you appreciate just how good Tiger is.

And let me say this for the record. All the people who keep trying to compare "lefty" to Tiger, need to quit right now. The man has some skills, but he needs to see the Wizard for a heart. His defense of his green jacket was a disgrace yesterday, and he ought to be ashamed of himself.

Before I go, the Phils lost today again to the Mets. I know it's early, but would it be too much to ask them to stay in the race until at least May. What are they 1-6 now? Ryan, again, I know it's early, but if you don't start producing soon, these Philly fans will turn on you faster than some of the corners on the Schukyll Expressway. Hey, over twenty four years without a major championship will do that to a city.

Bye bye Tubby, you did a great job at Kentucky, but in the field's opinion, it was time for you to go. I think you would even acknowledge that. Yes I know the Kentucky fans can by tough, and yes, at times, unrealistic. But you have to understand, there is no pro team in that state, and basketball is bigger than football. (Think college football in Nebraska)So I am not sure I can blame those die hards for being frustrated that one of the elite college basketball programs in the country, can't be in the final four hunt more often.

Now I have heard some black folks try to play the race card with Tubby's leaving. Trust me on this one folks, race had nothing to do with it. Tubby was there ten years, and although he did win one National Championship, he did it with Pitino's recruits. And at Kentucky, one serious run in ten years is not enough. Now please believe me when I tell you that I love Tubby, he can flat out coach. But, he can't recruit worth a lick, and he has always been lazy to go out on the road and close the deal with his recruits. As a result, he has been getting mid major recruits at a major program. That ain't gonna cut it in the SEC, and at Kentucky. I don't care how good of a coach you are, you are going to lose ten games a year with those types of players on that level.

So Tubby will be fine at Minnesota, they wanted him, and he wanted out of Lexington. But unless he starts recruiting, he will be winning 18-20 games a year with the Gophers ,competing in the big ten year in and year out, and that's about it. That might cut it in the land of a thousand lakes, but it ain't gonna cut it in blue grass country.

I see Kobe dropped 50 again. What is that, like ten in a row now? I know it's only been four, but it sure as hell seems like ten. Kobe can score whenever he wants and that's scary. Now my man joins another Philly guy as the only two players in history to score 50 in four straight games. And the Lakers have been winning during his streak. So you can't hate on Kobe for jacking 35-40 shots a game, and I damn sure know his teammates better not been complaining, cause him being aggresive on the offensive side of the ball is the only chance the Lakers have of making the playoffs.

Looks like there might be a black eye on my home country. (Jamaica) Seems the cricket coach for the Pakistani team was found murdered in his hotel room in Kingston. I sure hope some crazed Pakistani fan,and not a native Jamaican did it. By the way, Pakistan lost to Ireland, which would be like the Raiders losing to Indianapolis in football. The upset was huge. I just hope the Wset Indies decide to show up and represent. They have more talent than any team in the world, but unfortunately, just show up to play when they feel like it. Still, my money is on Australia, or the South Africans to win the cricket world cup.

So what am I left with? Six out of sixteen, six out of freaking sixteen! So I was wrong about Wisconsin, and Va Tech, and Texas. Turns out these teams were frauds. But hey, at least I have three of the final four teams still in the mix. Maryland and Virginia really weren't fraud teams, they just lost tough games. Still, this tournament has not had any real upsets, the lowest seed left is a seventh seed for crying out loud.

So let the Madness continue. We are down to sixteen, and soon there will be eight. I am scared to make picks again, so I will just stick to my final four and keep my fingers crossed. As for the remaining picks, just go with the little old lady from accounting, I bet she got more than six out of sixteen.

Did the Sixers just lose by fifty to Yao and the Rockets? Geeez! The wort ever loss in Sixer home history. I don't care what anybody says, there is no way a team with A.I. would have lost by fifty. That cat has too much heart. Yep, these are the times I miss A.I. I don't care if they had just won twenty in a row, you can't lose by fifty to anybody.

It's Madness!!!!

So March Madness is finally upon us. I must confess, along with the Super Bowl, the NBA finals, and the Penn Relays, this has become my favorite American sporting event. I love where we all get our office pools and pretend at least during the next couple of weeks, that we are smarter than all those ESPN analyst and paid basketball gurus out there. Forget that the winner of the pool will be some clueless old lady who picked her favorite teams because she liked their uniforms or she thought their coach was cute. Every year we mull over our picks as if this will be the year where we get all sixteen of the sweet sixteen teams right.

So what the heck, I will play along with everyone else in America and make some picks. Rather than bore you with all of my picks, I will give the you my sweet sixteen and my two finalist. Everything else is just up in the air as far as I am concerned.

So here goes:

EAST REGION: I am going chalk with North Carolina, check out my man Wayne Ellington, his game is all Philly. Then there is too much Durant and Texas, a minor upset with the 11th seeded George Washington, (Yeah Jimmy Calhoun isn't in this tourny, but his best recruiter ever, Karl Hobbs coaches down at GW and he has some athletes) and another slight upset pick with the 7th seeded Boston College. (I love Al Skinner)

SOUTH REGION: I am starting by going chalk again and picking Greg Oden and OSU. ("With the first pick in the draft, the [insert team here] select Greg Oden out of Ohio State University") I like Virginia to also shine in this region. (Check out their guards, one is a Philly guy, Sean Singletary, so you know they are nice) Texas A&M (Sorry Rick Pitino), and Memphis who I have loved all year and should have been a one seed.

MIDWEST REGION: Mmmmm minor upset here. I like Arizona taking out the Gators in the second round, I also like Maryland, Oregon, and Wisconsin who just might have the best player (Alando Tucker) in the country right now.

WEST REGION: Ahh I hate to do this, but I am going with Tubby and Kentucky over Kansas in the second round. I am also going with Va Tech (don't ask why just a gut feeling),Pitt, I know you didn't seriously think I was going to pick Duke did you, and UCLA. Ben Howland is an underrated coach and always gets it done come tournament time.

Your final four is; UCLA, Maryland, North Carolina, and Memphis.

So that's it folks. In a few days I am either going to look like a genius or a goat. But hey, at least I know I won't be alone. I bet only that little old lady in the office will be smiling.

Break up the Sixers! Six in a row, are you kidding me? Who would have thunk it. Caught them at the "Wach" last night against Mr. Elbows AKA Kobe and the Lakers, and I swear I think they can make the playoffs now. That behind the back slam dunk that the other A.I. threw down was worth the price of admission. I can't believe I am saying this; but they are actually playing much better without the real A.I.

Speaking of the real A.I.. Yeah I saw the sick cross over and bucket last night against the Pistons, but they still lost. They are five and ten when Melo and A.I. are on the floor together. I am starting to think that they can't co-exist. And I am hearing that Melo is starting to grumble about more shots. Why didn't I see this coming? I was one of the few people saying that A.I. will adjust his game, and will start dishing dimes in the Mile High city, but it seems I was wrong. Looks like my man is back to being the same old ball hawk that has to get his thirty shots a game. Still, I hope the Nuggets make the playoffs, because at the end of the day, A.I. is still the most fun player to watch in the league.

Yes I am caught up in March Madness. I told you everybody that will listen to watch out for Memphis, but no one is listening to the field. I am telling you right now they will be a final eight team, I don't care where they are seeded or what region they are in. With all due respect to "Joey Brackets" from ESPN, they should be the number one seed in the West and not UCLA.

And can someone tell me just what the f**k Tubby was doing calling his player from the free throw line. (Tubby it's called over coaching) They lost the possession and the game to a Mississippi State team they should have beaten. I am telling you Tubby, you had better put your crib up for sale in Lexington, cause your days are numbered in blue grass country.

So the beast of the east is baaaack. The "nice" John Thompson is doing a heck of a job, and G-Town might actually make some noise in the tournament this year. I am not crazy about their guard play, but their big men play well on both ends of the floor. And speaking of big men, I see Greg Oden is stepping up his game for the Big Ten tournament. I think Oden will be an even better pro, because the college game is guard oriented and in the modern college game big men just don't dominate like they used to. Heck Shaq never made it pass the second round when he was at LSU. I am saying all that to say this; if they draft were held today and I had the first pick, I would have to go with the big fella, Mr. Oden.

Before I go I have a couple of more things on my mind: I think the AD at LSU is being a real weasel by not either coming out and supporting Pokey Chatman, or telling us just what the f**k is going on. Yeah I know there has been whispers of a sexual relationship between her and one of her past players, so step up and tell us what the University really thinks instead of playing bull sh** games with a great coaches career. And Bobby Knight, please shut the f**k up! Is it any ones fault that you are stuck out in nowhere Texas with no shot at getting quality recruits instead of doing your screaming on a great Big Ten stage in Bloomington? Your little outburst against that reporter was uncalled for: "You need to get some exercise boy" Ahhh look who is talking? Have you seen your fat gut lately General ?

Penn Quakers are in the dance! It seems that every year the boys from West Philly are the first to punch their ticket. And if you think they are just a bunch of white boys who play in the Ivy and can't ball. You better think again. They routinely beat teams in the Big Five here in Philly, and they always have some serious ballers (black and white) on their squad. I bet Fran Dunphy is kicking himself for leaving to go to Broad Street.

I'll be dammed of the Sixers didn't fool around and win again last night. (three in a row) Folks, we might as well forget about that Greg Oden sweep stakes. These boys are acting like they even want to make the playoffs. Andre Miller is the truth. Yeah I still miss A.I., but I'll be damned if Miller ain't making life a little easier without the "Answer".

And is that Larry Brown looking over Mo's shoulder? Rumor has it that he wants the Vanilla -nova coach, Jay Wright, to take over the Sixers. He sure has been to allot of Vanilla-nova games lately, and trust me, it ain't to scout the players, it's the coach he wants. Of course if Jay won't bight I am sure Larry will be more than happy to take over the Sixers again. Andre Miller is his types of point guard, and now that the other A.I. is on his way to becoming a super star, Larry would love nothing better to be a part of a Sixer rebirth. I say it still can't really happen until we get rid of our GM, that f*****g Dukie, Billy King.

Sunday Rant.

So Greg the "old man" Oden and his Buckeyes actually hung on and beat the Badgers today. I still think the Badgers are better, the Buckeyes were at home, and the Badgers were off their game, and they still only lost by one.

So the Phillies and their shortstop, Jimmy Rollins, are chirping that they are the team to beat. Well, I will believe it when I see it. I have been hearing that this is the year in this town for the past thirteen years, and still, zilch. So we will see Mr. Rollins if this is really the year.

Let's see if their pitching holds up this year, if Tom Gordon can make it past August, and if their Manager can actually learn to think on his feet, they might have a shot.

Now that D Wade is probably out for the season, I think the east is really wide open. We all know that Shaq Diesel loves to turn it on down the stretch, but he will need a side kick to make it happen, and Zoe and Gary Payton ain't gonna cut it.

Speaking of the NBA. It seems a bunch of my cousins made a fool of themselves at the All Star game in Vegas. I'll be damned if I didn't watch NASCAR (The Daytona 500) last night. Well, just the last five laps. I must confess, it was pretty exciting stuff. I mean, one car crossed the finish line upside down for crying out loud. Now that's exciting for your ass. Now I must confess as a field negro, there won't be much more NASCAR events in my future, but it was at least fun to see what our red state brothers and sisters get so excited about.

Caught the no defense game last night too. What did they score, like 400 points between them? I watched the two Phoenix Suns players, and I swear between them and Steve Nash, Phoenix should not lose another game. And Kobe is the truth. I swear he can score anytime he wants to.

Oh, and speaking of the All Star game: What the f**k happened to Wayne Newton? He looked like he has been dead and embalmed for at least two weeks. If that man smiles too hard his face will crack. And Toni Braxton....mmmm, all I can say is; girlfriend looked so good, I didn't hear a word of her song.

Nice win for Vandy over Florida, they might actually make the tournament as an at large team after all. And Vanillanova went down to Georgetown and the "nice" John Thompson. Still, they might already be a lock for the tournament.

His game is all Philly (See Rip Hamilton and Kobe) and when the mid range jumper is working, he is unstoppable.

Please if there is a God, let BC beat Duke when they hook up in Beantown. If Duke looses to Al Skinner's club, there is a possibility that they might not make the tournament. I couldn't be that lucky could I? Hey, a man can dream can't he.

Yeah I know they lost last night to the Clips, but the Sixers have put together a nice little run lately. (Three out of five wins) and trust me, for them, that's huge. The other A.I. (Andre Iguodala) has been playing some serious ball, scoring 20 or more in 10 of his last 11 games and dropping a couple of triple doubles on the way. If they keep this up, they might actually f**k up a chance of a nice lottery pick.

Mmmmm, I am not sure what to think about that. Winning is nice, but I am torn. I really need them to get a nice sure fire pick in this draft. Sorry, I can't trust the "Dukie", Bill King to make a good pick. So wi..I mean lo....of fu** it, I will just watch and enjoy the basketball. I am starting to think if they had gotten Andre Miller a little earlier they would have been making a run at the Atlantic Division. I still can't believe Toronto is leading the division. Although I must say that Chris Bosh is the truth.

I see where two Gonzaga players were arrested and suspended off the team for having the good collie weed, and some psychedelic mushrooms in their car. Like what the f**k did you expect? The Manning Conspiracy

I hope everyone caught what I call the Manning conspiracy during the Super Bowl. Is it me, or did the Colts keep the former bayou Bengal, Joseph Addai, off the field so he couldn't rack up the numbers to get the Cadillac? I mean Rhodes did a nice job,and Manning did what he had to do by managing the game properly. But Addai was the one that carried that team when they most needed it. The man was a workhorse receiving and running the ball. And let's not forget the blocking he did when he had to pick up the blitzes. Still, at the end, when Indy was running out the clock, there my man stood on the sidelines; just watching and waiting for Ms. Manning to get the keys to the Caddy.

I know I know, what else were they going to do? It was, after all, Peyton's Super Bowl; and if it was even a little close, you know the MVP was going to him. But still, it doesn't seem fair. There is no way Manning was the MVP of that game, and I think 91 million people know it.

Speaking of the Super Bowl, thank you Rex Grossman for stinking up the joint, and now causing the iggles to probably lose Jeff Garcia as a back up to five next season. I am sure he can get that four million he is asking for on the open market from da Bears . Trust me, Jeff's wife would look better than Grossman right about now. I know this was his first full year, but he is clueless out there, and throws a terrible deep ball. "It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's a Rex Grossman deep ball". Yuck!

Before I go I would like to offer my best wishes to the Andy Reid family for what they are going through with their main line gangster sons. Are you kidding me? Drugs, guns, a scale, and drug paraphernalia? And I am not talking just any drugs, I am talking the big "H" here. NEW YORK - "Barry Bonds' contract with the San Francisco Giants isn't final just yet.
After the commissioner's office rejected Bonds' $15.8 million, one-year deal because it contained a personal-appearance provision, the team sent revised documents to his agent, Jeff Borris.
"At this time, Barry is not signing the new documents," Borris said Wednesday.
Baseball's Uniform Player Contract states a player "agrees to cooperate with the club in any and all reasonable promotional activities." Bonds' contract had additional language that the commissioner's office rejected.
Borris did not detail the provisions in dispute, but a baseball executive, speaking on condition of anonymity because these details had not been made public, said they dealt with personal appearances.
After several disputes, lawyers for the union and the commissioner's office agreed last fall that no additional appearance provisions would be accepted in future player contracts. It was not yet clear Wednesday whether Bonds must sign a new contract or whether the one he already signed would be accepted with the troublesome language eliminated.
Giants executives did not immediately return telephone calls seeking comment.
Bonds and the Giants, who agreed to financial terms Dec. 7, said Monday the drawn-out agreement had been finalized.
Still, they disagree on the meaning of an unusual provision in the deal relating to Bonds' potential legal problems. In the contract, a list of crimes acts is spelled out in a section.
"Player acknowledges and agrees that an indictment for any criminal act under (that section) ... is proper grounds for termination of this contract," Bonds' contract states.
The language in the contract was read to The Associated Press by a person with a copy of the agreement.
"Player also acknowledges and agrees that he will not grieve, appeal or otherwise challenge any club action to terminate this contract as a result of player's indictment for any criminal acts (specified) ... nor will he cause or authorize any third party, such as the Major League Baseball Players Association, to grieve, appeal or otherwise challenge any club action to terminate this contract as a result of player's indictment for any (specified) criminal acts."
The Giants wanted to protect themselves if Bonds is charged in the federal government's steroids investigation. Bonds' personal trainer, Greg Anderson, is in a California federal prison because he has refused to testify whether Bonds committed perjury when he told a 2003 grand jury he never knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs.
Borris said the contract language is unenforceable under baseball's collective bargaining agreement and its inclusion is meaningless.
"Although it is not my policy to comment on the specifics of an individual player's contract, the reporting that Barry will allow the Giants to get out of his contract if he is indicted on the federal steroid investigation is inaccurate," he said. "The collective bargaining agreement governs the work relationship between the owners and players, not the Giants' unilateral assertions."
At a news conference Wednesday to announce the 2008 All-Star game will be played at Yankee Stadium, commissioner Bud Selig wouldn't address a question about baseball's plans if Bonds breaks Hank Aaron's home run record. Bonds has 734 homers, 21 shy of Aaron's mark.
"I think I've spoken on that simply as much as I'm going to," Selig said. "I've said that we would handle it the way we've handled everything else, and that's all I have to say on that subject right now."

OK true confessions,I am not a big Tiger Woods fan-more of a Vijay Singh man myself-but I must admit; the guy has some serious game. I just knew he was going to lose to the young Aussie today, and I will be damn if he -the young fellow-didn't choke. What is it about Tiger that turns seasoned pros into jelly, and young bucks to whimpering also rans? Must be the clubs, or is it the club covers? Whatever it is, I think we are witnessing the greatest ever to play the game right before our very eyes.

Speaking of the greatest ever; it's now official in my book. Roger Federer is better than Pete Sampras. Who before Federer came along, I considered the greatest tennis player of all time.
My man has the complete game. And he can beat you with power or finesse. He did it again last night down under, and I think from the first serve in the match to the final point, every one watching knew that Federer was going to add another grand slam title to his belt.

So enjoy folks, we are living in a time when we have not one but two of the greatest ever in their respective sports playing at the same time.

I have been blessed to witness a few great sporting events live in my life time, and watch some great athletes up close and personal. The following ones come to mind:

Pele: As a kid, I saw him playing for his Brazilian club team, Santos, at the National Stadium in Kingson Jamaica. The first time he touched the ball you just knew he was special. No lie, I felt goose bumps!

Michael Johnson: Caught him at the Penn Relays. I will never forget that turn for the final 100 yards. I was cheering for the Jamaicans, but trust me, everyone in the house knew the race was over when he took the baton.

Magic: I was fortunate to watch EJ first play in Junior High School, and then a few times while he played with the Lakers. And all I can say is that he deserved the nickname.

Mike Tyson: Saw him destroy Michael Spinks at the Trump in 1988. Hell, I was scared of the mother f****r, and I wasn't even near the ring.

Hating On Five

Folks, I, live in a cruel town; where the fans are so starved for a championship, and so fickle, that no superstar is safe from ridicule, and every performance is judged by their last. Which leads me to my man Donovan McNabb, or as he is affectionately called here in the "city of brotherly love"; Five. Well, lately, it seems Five has had some issues, or so the Philly media says. If you believe the stories, he was jealous of Jeff Garcia, -our cities latest Rocky reincarnation that took the iggles two deep into the playoffs- he was mad at the team trainer, he was pissed off because he was not allowed to go to New Orleans with the team, and he is mad at the fans for dissing his Mama after she had some not too smart comments on his blog. (Something about Five being upset with the way Garcia was getting all the love, and the iggles successes being bitter sweet)

But back to these fickle ass Eagles fans. Listen, I love my iggles, but I hate their fans. Many of them are flat out racist ignorant brutes, who would just as soon sell their first born to cover a spread, and who would pack up and move in a New York minute if they saw a black man moving in on their block. But still, they bleed iggle green, and they love their players -black and white- well mostly white, and, to be fair, they would cheer for the Jolly Green Giant if he could bring them a championship; just one stinking championship!
So they are killing Five. I guess all those conference championships, a trip to the Super Bowl, and all those wining seasons didn't matter. I guess all the spectacular plays, and wonderful memories didn't matter. (Wait, is that Ms. Jackson I hear singing? "What have you done for me lately") No, not in the city of "brotherly love" where our only true sports hero is a fictional one.

But to be fair, Five is not totally blameless. The guy is way too sensitive, and he comes off as a Mommas boy. Philly hates a Mommas boy. Just ask Eric Lindros, another Mommas boy who was driven out of here. And I really don't think his teammates appreciate his company man, house Negro, demeanor. Now the guy is getting over one hundred million from the company, so f**k it, I guess I would be a company man too. Then there is the booing he got on draft day, he never forgot that and he won't let it go. But hey, if it motivates him, I guess I can't complain.

So the local papers, and talk radio are all over him, they are loving the controversy because it helps ratings and fires up the masses. So the iggles have a real dilemma on their hands. Do they bring Rocky Garcia back and threaten Fives delicate psyche? Or do they dump Rocky and take a chance that Five's knee is fully healed, and all this negative chatter won't damage him for good?

In my humble opinion, they should get rid of Garcia and bring Five back. Garcia was more lucky than good in his run.(Did you see all those dropped interceptions?) And yeah that whole Rocky underdog rah rah sh** is nice, but it ain't gonna win you any championships. So please iggles, don't be stupid, this is Donovan's team. And in spite of his mom, in spite of his delicate ego, and in spite of his house Negro persona, they ain't going no where without him.

And one more thing: can we have a petition drive in Philly to get talk radio 610 and that buffoon of a morning anchor, off the air? (I see they have one token black, former Eagle, Hugh Douglas, on the station now) I can't stand that clown! And do you think its a coincidence that since he has been on the radio, we have not won a championship? I don't. The man is a flat out jinx, get him off now! And besides, did I mention that Five hates his guts?

OK, let me be the first to congratulate Ms. Manning on her wonderful performance today! You stepped up and took your Colts to the Superbowl, that was big time coming back from being down 18 points. Now would it be too much to ask you to win the bowl when you get there? But I am not going to put too much on Ms. Manning right now, she delivered today and that's what counts. Congrats Lovie and Tony. Two field Negroes meeting for all the marbles, now that's a beautiful thing. I just don't want the two black coaches overkill talk leading up to the big game. A mention here and there, but that's it. Unfortunately, if I know the networks, that's all we will hear about. Still, if it can help some up and coming black coaches get jobs...maybe it's not such a bad thing.

Rex Grossman stepped up for Da Bears, and had a nice drive when they really needed it. Rex, the windy city is hoping you have one more nice game left in you, or they are toast. I just don't think that D is good enough to stop Ms. Manning, Marvin, Joseph, and company.

I caught Kevin Durant against Vanillanova, and he came up kind of small. (4-15 for 12 points). The real star in the game was my man Scottie Reynolds from Nova who dropped 26 on the boyz from the Lone Star state. Still, he looks like a nice enough player, but I am still leaning to Oden if the Sixers have the first pick in the draft. Although I wouldn't be hurting if we ended up with Joakim Noah and the second pick. I think he will be a nice pro too.

What the f**k is going on with Tubby down at Kentucky? He lost to Vanderbilt of all teams, and I bet they are starting to whisper in Lexington. I love Tubby but he hasn't really been doing any big time recruiting, and the cats have not done anything int he dance in awhile. Come on Tubby, time to step up.

A.I. and Mello debut together tomorrow night, and I can't wait.I hope the idiots here with the Sixers brass saw A.I. drop 36 on Houston last night including a three ball off the glass in OT. If you are counting, that makes three in a row for the Nuggets.

Now I know your knees are shot, but I have been watching you these last couple of games with Detroit, and it seems like right after you cleared waivers, those knees just got so much better. Mmmmmm.

Hey, C-Web, I liked you with the Fab Five, and I was one of the few people in America that didn't kill you for that "time out" thing. But I am starting to wonder my man, are you doing another "Big Dog"; jaking it to get out of town so that you can go collect a ring with the team that you think has a shot to win it all? Damn this is hard to watch! I am talking about the Sixers here. A once venerable and great franchise reduced to losing game after game after game. (Trust me, tonight we will lose to the only other team in the league that's worse than we are, the Griz)I mean where is the good Doctor when you need him? If ever the Sixers needed a doctor, any doctor, it's now. They are pathetic, and it seems, getting worse with every game. Poor Mo Cheeks. The guy is already not the greatest coach, and with a sorry bunch like this, he really looks bad. Poor Rodney Carney, and poor Louis Williams, both young players who probably are thinking; what the hell did I get myself into here?

Yes folks, the house that A.I. built is getting emptier and emptier these days. And honestly, you can't blame the fans. I mean if they played exciting ball and were 10-28 in the worst division (The Atlantic) in the NBA, you could understand. But they play ugly ball and they lose. There is just no joy in Mudville with this bunch.

LT Is Right!

OK a couple of things I gotta get off my chest. First, LT was right! The Patriots are a classless bunch of phonies and I despise every one of those sorry ass uni wearing New Englanders. Having said that, they are probably the best organization in football since Bill Walsh's Forty Niners.

Now let's talk about their coach for a minute. You know, the guy with the personality only his mother, and Bill Parcells could love. The guy that pushed the camera man in New England, the guy that refused to shake his protege's hand, and the guy that chooses to wear that God awful looking hoody on the sidelines. I think he is a bad human being, but a great coach. Kind of like that guy coaching basketball at some obscure Texas University who just passed Dean Smith's winning record. Must be something to being a jerk and a good coach. Maybe the guys respect and fear you more. Hey, you know what's that they say about nice guys finishing last. Just ask Mo Cheeks.

So yeah, I bet he allowed, and probably encouraged his players to go dancing on the Chargers logo. No telling what they were saying in the locker room. I am sure it went something like this: "No one is giving us a chance, those Chargers or America does not respect you let's go kick their butts, and show them who we are ....blah blah blah" You know the speech. Yet, they put on a public face like they have so much respect for the Chargers, and their other opponents. But I blame the Chargers, they were sloppy, poorly coached, and not hungry enough. And memo to LT, save that fighting and passion for during the game next time, not after it.

And one final word: This is for Lovie Smith in Chicago. You are one of the lowest paid coaches in the league-typical-and you have done a terrific job with the Bears. Do not take any bull sh** offers from them. Demand a big contract, and demand that they open the bank and give you some of that mad NFL money that their owners are sitting on. The Home Depot guy in Atlanta -Arthur Blank-just gave Bobby Petrino four million for crying out loud! And Saban just got that to go and coach in college. So please Lovie, stand up and be a man, and if they give you a bull sh** offer, tell them to go and fu** themselves. Trust me, you will land o your feet.

Did He Just Punt?

Excuse me folks if I am fit to be tied right about now! I just watched my genius of a coach the L.A. Weight Loss Man himself, Andy Reid, give away a game to the "Who Dats" by punting on the 39 yard line with a minute and fifty four seconds to go in the f*****g game. Oh, did I mention that we were down by three at the time? Geeez! Andy what were you thinking? Did you really think we could stop Deuce McAllister once we got the ball back?

Now if this were any other team but the "Who Dats" who happen to be my second fave team behind the iggles, I would be really pissed, but I can live with the Saints going to the NFC title game. Lord knows if anyone deserves it, they do. I won't even get into all those people have been through down there, and the long history of bad teams they have had. Besides my ties and kinship to Louisiana, that's why I have always liked the Saints, because I just love an under dog.

Is Deuce still running? Like what the f**k? I mean I know our defense was gassed, but can they stop the run just once in a while? It was sickening to watch McAllister and #25 -you know the guy with the President's name-just gash run after run after run.

And I see Payton Manning finally found a way to win in the playoffs; leave it to his defense, and let them do the job. Tony Dungy has that D playing like the ones he had in Tampa. Now if he can just get Payton to stop choking in the playoffs, the Colts might have something this year.

What happened to Steve McNair today? The poor guy looked shell shocked. Must be something about wearing that Ravens uniform that makes QB's look bad. Their D showed up as usual, but their offense let them down, and I think Brian Billick was out coached.

Oh well, that's it for me folks, I will try to get some sleep now, but it will be hard, I just can't get that damn punt out of my mind.

OK so David Beckham is gracing our shores and will be playing in the MLS next year. How nice for the glamorous one? And he even gets to play in L.A. But here is the problem; I watched the World Cup too, and except for when he made free kicks, Beckham was the worst player on the English squad. He could rarely get back and make a tackle after an attack, and his runs were awful. Yep there is a reason the English team got rid of him. Just ask Wayne Rooney,Joe Cole, and Ashley Cole if they will miss him.

Still, he will bring fans to the MLS game, and maybe this time fan interest will stick. Lord knows the MLS needs to do something. And, I hear several mid range Premiership teams were bidding for his services, as well as some top flight Italian teams. But Mr.Posh Spice only wanted to go to Chelsea, or Man U, and when that didn't happen, he took the MLS millions and ran with it. (250 million over five years)

My prediction, the Galaxy will win a bunch of games and Beckham will do alright. But he won't help them win the MLS cup, and he ain't getting a long term contract to return to Europe like he wants after this little MLS run. I think he will be surprised to see that the level of play here on this side of the pond is pretty good, and he won't be able to just run through the league.Just wait until he runs up against the likes of my man Bakary Soumare (formerly of UVA) he will see that there are some athletes over here too.

Ahhhhh, the day after my iggles put a royal ass whopping on the G-Men. I know I know we only won by a field goal, and for a moment there it looked like Tiki was going to do enough to delay his debut on "Good Morning America". But hey, we pulled it out, and that's what good teams do.

Oh, and memo to all the bone heads in the NFL who did not vote Brian Westbrook on to the pro bowl team. There are some really good smokes in Kentucky too. You don't have to get all of your weed from Jamaica and Northern Cali. And you might want to stop smoking just long enough to make an intelligent selection.

This Saturday will be tough for me. Because I love those "Who Dats" too, and the "Big Easy" will be rocking. This is a win win for the field. Whichever teams wins I will be happy. Although it would be nice to talk some smack to my boyz in Louisiana.

I hate to admit it, but I feel bad for the Cowpokes and Toney -I dated Jessica Simpson-Romo-Kind of reminds me of something similer that happened to my iggles against those very hated cow pokes a few years back. Oh well, what goes around comes around.

Hey, I know this is a rebuilding year for the Flyers, but.....damn they look bad, I though no matter how bad you were in the NHL, you still have a chance every night due to goal keeping? Well the Flyers just don't look like they have a chance every night, and that's a really bad thing.

The best basketball team in Philly is not the Sixers, or any of the Big Five teams.(Temple,Villanova,St.Joes, Penn, or Lasalle) No folks the best team in Philly is the Drexel Dragons. They are playing some sick ball, and Bruiser Flint looks like the real deal as a coach. They have put a beat down on some serious teams (like Syracuse) already and have damn near walked through the Big Five. Mmmmm, not sure how much longer the Dragons will be able to keep Bruiser in West Philly.

And one last thing about these fickle ass fans in my beloved Philly. Hey, I love Jeff Garcia as much as the next guy, and yes he has been a God send. But please stop with the QB controversy talk. This is D- Macs team, and Jeff Garcia,weak arm and all, might know how to run this offense, and I like his fire and passion. But he ain't no Donovan McNabb. So please turn off that moron on WIP in the mornings and get some sense in your heads.

Well it's a new year, and the field is pumped. I caught some of the bowl games, and I was ...well bowled over by some of the performances. First, I must give some love to LSU, for stomping those hated "domers". (God I hate Notre Dame) Charlie the fat man was totally out coached and I think we should hold off on that bust of him right in front of touchdown Jesus for now.

Did anyone see the Boise State Oklahoma game? Classic! Except for the part where that running back proposed to his cheer leader girlfriend. Was it just me, or did that seem just a way bit creepy. What else? Oh, it seems some of these mid major conferences -especially the WAC gave a good accounting of themselves. The SEC on the other hand, I am not so sure about. No way Tennessee should have lost to Penn State, and I will get to Bama in a minute.

OK minute up. Yes folks, my beloved Tide backed up the Brinks truck to Nick Saban's door and he could not resist. Isn't non-prophet status great? 40 million over ten years, now that's big time. I was starting to wonder there for a minute. I mean the West Virginia coach turned us down for crying out loud. WEST VIRGINIA! Like since when did that become a storied program over Alabama? I know the folks down in Bayou country are fuming, but get over that sh**, you would have done the same thing. Can you imagine if DeMarcus Russell had stayed home and not went to Baton Rouge? Well folks, I think Mr. Saben was thinking the same thing.

Nice to see the Sixers put together a nice little winning streak. And yes, A.I. is doing just fine in that mile high altitude. Just wait until Melo gets back, they are going to be so sick together. I can see A.I. averaging twelve dimes a game now.

My Iggles play the G-Men this Sunday in the playoffs, and I can't wait. In case you did not know, that is absolutely the team I hate the most in the no fun league. They talk allot of crap, and can never back it up. And I am so tired of the whole Manning family thing. None of those boys have ever won squat on any level, so please folks no more of the Manning boys until they can actually win when it counts. Like how do you think those idiots in New York are feeling right about now after damn near giving the Super Bowl to San Diego? I said it then and I will say it again; New York should have taken Phillip Rivers.

Ahhh this was a beautiful Sunday for us iggles fans. Those chirping G-Men from up the turnpike got their asses kicked in a serious way. The looks on their faces was priceless. Is it me, or is Eli Manning way over rated? And yes, Tiki is alright, but he ain't Barry Sanders. Hell, he ain't even Brian Westbrook, who by the, did some serious dealing on those frauds today.

Once again Mr. Garcia came through. Although may I suggest that he chills just a little. That boneheaded penalty for spiking the ball almost cost us the game. " I'm very disappointed in my self for those actions" As well you should be. But hey, at least we won. The O and D lines played well, and it's nice to see Mr. Darwin Walker come to play for once. Maybe we can keep the run in check. Hard to believe that just a couple of weeks ago I was calling for Jim Johnson's head. What a difference a couple of wins make.

As for Shockey, Burris, and that chirping linebacker, Antonio Pierce. Try to do your talking on the field next time, and stop giving your opponents bulletin board material. Unless you can back that sh** up, you need to shut the f**k up the week of an important division game next time.

This A.I. thing is killing me folks. The divorce between him and the Sixers is really ugly, and Allen does not deserve this. Hey, "The Answer" damn near built that new arena, and has left his guts on the court for this franchise over and over again. Yeah so "we talkin bout practice" got some people pissed off, but so what? When you can deliver come game time the way he does, maybe we don't need to talk so much about practice. At least not if you are A.I.

I swear this trade is going to be screwed up just like all the other times Philly dumped their super starts for nothing. Think Wilt, think Sir Charles, and think Moses. All bad trades. These icons were sent packing and we got garbage in return. Billy King, I never liked your Dukey ass, and I think it's time for you to go. I know Allen has to go because this marriage is way beyond repair, but you should not be far behind him as he eases out the door.

And to think, just five years ago we were in the finals, and we thought that was the first of many to come. But we should have known better, this is Philly, and our teams just love to break our hearts.

So good luck to you A.I., wherever you go. I will always have mad love for your game, and what you brought every night. I hope the Sixers send you to a winner, and you show them and the rest of the world that you can win it all.

Well Mr. Garcia if you are going to play like that, we might just keep you around after all. Jeff Garcia was definitely the truth last night, and he cam through big time for my iggles. Still, they must do something about the rush defense, and the defensive ends are getting absolutely no rush on opposing QB's. But, it was a nice win, and long over due. Believe it or not, the NFC wild card race is still wide open.

Now of course, I say wild card, because my iggles have no shot at winning the division. The Cowboys are just too good and balanced. Romo had a so so day, and they still beat the G-Men in New York. Is there a more animated coach in the NFL than Tom Coughlin. Wow, that guy needs to take a freaking bottle of chill pills. Although I can't say I can blame him, his team makes one dumb penalty after another,and are imploding right before his very eyes. Couldn't have happened to a bunch of nicer guys. I f*****g hate the G-Men! More than I do the Cowboys. I know that's blasphemy coming from an Eagles fan, but it's the truth.

Titans win Titans win! Just what the f**k is going on in Tennessee? And to think, we could have had Jeff Fisher here in Philly.

Some thoughts: Why aren't more teams going after Manny Rimarez, and why are people even complaining that Michigan isn't in the National Championship game? Get over it already, they had their shot, and the last time I checked, Florida just had one loss in the toughest conference top to bottom in college football, the SEC. And why can't Bama get a coach? People like Nick Saban have already turned the tide down, and that's not good. Folks, Bama is fast becoming a less of a college powerhouse and I can't explain why. Well, yes I can; maybe it's all these coaches that have come through Tuscaloosa over the past few years, and being on some serious probation a few years ago didn't help. But it seemed like Shula was starting to turn it around. But then again, you can't lose to Mississippi State at home, and lose three straight (or was it four) to Auburn.

Finally, will someone please Tell Sylvester Stallone that it's over with the "Rocky" stuff. Yeah yeah yeah, he had a nice run of it, but it's over already. And here in Philly, we need to get over that fictional hero too. IT WAS A F*****G MOVIE! Hey, don't we have real boxing heroes here like "Smoking Joe, and B-Hop who we could be embracing for real? Come on Philly, we are better than that.

Like I didn't see this coming: Yes my iggles got their asses kicked last night, and the scary thing is, it could have been worse. I mean wasn't it just a two years ago that their defense was dominating the NFC? And don't get me wrong, the rookie from LSU, Joseph Addai is a nice runner, but the last time I checked Jim Brown retired from football. Or did he? Was that Jimmy B I saw last night gashing the iggles for seven and eight yards a pop last night? Sad indeed!

And please, I don't want to hear about McNabb being hurt and the T.O. effect still lingering from last year. Let's face it Eagle Nation; it's OVER for this team! Oh, and before I forget; let me be the first to say it right now: Jimmy Johnson, our defensive coordinator must go! Yes, it's time. I am sorry Jimmy, you served this town and the iggles well, but the game has passed you by. All the other coordinators have caught up to you and know just how to beat you now. Maybe if you had a little more talent you could cover up some of your deficiencies, but you don't so you must go!

Nice to see the G-Man collapse against the Titans. I am eating a little crow today. I said previously on this blog that Vince Young should not be starting this year in the NFL. Well, it seems I was wrong. Hey Jeff Fisher, that's why you are the coach and I am not.

Now let's talk some college football real quick. If their is a faster team on both sides of the ball than USC, I would like to see them. I loved how they put a serious ass whopping on my least favorite team in all of football-pros and college- those sorry ass "domers". Yeah Brady Quinn is alright, and he will play on Sundays, but they have never seen speed like SC's all year, and maybe next time they will play a real schedhule instead of loading up with the Army Navies of the world.

And oh how the mighty have fallen. FSU and Miami's total record is 12-12, and Wake freaking Forest is sitting on top of the ACC. Not to mention Rutgers with only one loss and a shot at the Big East title. Cue in Twilight Zone music here please.

I hope USC and Ohio play for the National Championship-Michigan you had your shot-, and I don't want to hear anybody even mention Florida in the same breath as OSU, USC, and Michigan, they don't even belong in the same stadium with those teams.

Folks, that splashing sound you here is that of my fellow Philadelphians jumping off the Ben Franklin Bridge. Yes my friends, the "Chunky Soup Man" D Mc is out for the season, and possibly for some of next season as well. Talk about Black Sunday, this was it! Not only did the iggles stink up the joint against the lowly Titans, but they didn't even come to play. They made Vince Young look like Fran Tarkenton out there. -I bet he was having USC Texas flashbacks all game. The iggles D must have looked like SoCal in that championship game to him- And the defense was gashed over and over by big plays. Oh, and I think Pac Man Jones is still running!

The iggles were unprepared, undisciplined, out of sync, and unmotivated. I hate to say it Andy, but you have one more year. Actually, if they -the birds-lose out this year, it could be your last in Philly town. We appreciate the five straight trips to the NFC championship game, the Super Bowl appearance, and being in the NFC East hunt damn near every year that you have been here. But what have you done for us lately?

Oh, and the news gets worse. Former Eagle, Andre Waters, died suddenly today-maybe he saw the game on Sunday-No I shouldn't joke about that. This is serious, my condolences to his family.

Oh, and the Sixers and the Flyers lost-so what else is new?- C-Web is bitching about playing time. The guy makes 20 million per year and bitches about playing time. Pay me 20 million a year to sit on the bench and cheer on my team mates. Go A.I. Go!!!!! Sh%*. I will be the best damn cheer leader in the history of the NBA.

One good thing came out of this dreadful weekend, and that is that Ryan Howard won the National League MVP today. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think it's the first time someone in the National League won the rookie of the year award, and come back and win the MVP the following year. I know Cal Ripkin did it in the American League, but I don't think it's ever been done on the senior circuit.

But that's where the good news ends. Because the Phils lost the bidding war for Alfonso Soriano to the stinking Cubs. Looks like he did get his eight year deal after all. One day the Phillies are going to realize that they are a Major League team competing with the big boys, and not some double A farm team in Altoona some damn where!!

Now I gotta go, I have an appointment with my shrink.

The Week That Was

So my iggles finally broke their losing streak with a nice win over the Skins-who was that left handed impostor of Mark Brunell playing QB for Washington Sunday?-The D looked good, and they finally ran the damn ball. Dante Stallworth looks like the real deal, he runs nice patterns, and has world class speed. Now if he can just stay healthy.

Lovie's Bears might be for real after all. The put a nice ass whupping on the G men, even though half of their line was out, it was still a nice win for da Bears. Did anyone catch the San Diego Cincinnati game? Hey, I thought Marvin Lewis was supposed to preach defense?
Indy is still undefeated, so what else is new. They will win twelve or thirteen games this year, and lose in the playoffs before they can get to the big game again. Why you say? I will tell you why: He is called Peyton, and that guy could never win the big one. He had to leave Tennessee for them to get a National Championship.

I want to switch gears real quick, and talk about the General. Now this is a tough one for me, because I loved John Chaney when he was coaching, and I saw him grab his players all the time. But Bobby Knight has a history, and he should know better than thumping a player on his chin in the middle of a fuc*&%g game. The man has some serious anger management problems. But hey, if the player or his parents didn't have a problem with it, I am going to leave it alone.
But I love the hypocrites who were screaming at the University of Miami President for her to do something about her players after that fight, but have no problem with the Texas Tech administration staying quiet on this one. Hey, is that crickets I hear?

Looking forward to Michigan Ohio State this Saturday, I am not sure if Super Mario is playing or not. If he is, I am taking Michigan in a squeaker. If not, I am going with The Ohio State University.

Monday Morning Quarterback

My iggles didn't play yesterday, so I almost played a round of golf and ignore the "no fun league." At the last minute my buddy called and canceled our game-wife issues- and I was forced to watch some of the games. Now I am glad I did. The thriller in DC. between the pokes and the skins was probably the best game so far this year. The way that game ended; to quote the Master Card people, was priceless!

And memo to my man T.O. I loved the end zone celebration-going to sleep with the football as a pillow-but you have got to catch those bombs from your QB. If you are going to complain that you want the damn ball, when you get it, you had better deliver. They are paying you a whole lot of money down there in Big D.

Sorry, I am still not feeling Indy. something about the makeup of that team just tells me that they will choke in January. Sorry Lovie, da Bears are still not legit on offense. I was never a big Rex Grossman fan, and after watching his performance against the fish at home, I have to wonder. Oh, and WTF is wrong with the Steelers, maybe Lynn Swann running for governor jinxed them. I saw start my man Charlie Batch until Big Ben gets healthy again.

Can we talk hoops for a minute? Is my man A.I. the truth or what? Thirty one and thirteen dimes to go with it on almost 50% shooting from the floor. Yeah I know it's early, but the Sixers are 3-0. I think Mo really has them playing some D now, and the rookie they drafter looks pretty decent. He actually played some nice D on Tamia's man at the end of the Magic game in Orlando, which helped the Sixers get that win.

As for the Flyers....well, they stink! There is just no other way to put it. I will be surprised if they make the playoffs this year. And in the NHL, missing the playoffs is hard to do.

And I am starting to wonder about Mike Shula. Hey, you cannot lose to Mississippi State at home. I don't care what the circumstances are. Nice win for Crooms, and it's always good to see an African American head coach do well in college. But does he have to do it at the tide's expense?

Blue Monday

So this is what it's like being a Philly fan? My friends tried to warn me: Field they said, if you want to live a normal happy life, don't become a fan of any of the Philly sports teams, they will break your heart every time. [24 years and counting]

Boy they weren't kidding. Just yesterday, it seems my heart was broken three or four different times in one stinking game. Two interceptions thrown by "Chunky Soup Man" taken to the house by that other Barber kid for 14 points. A blown play at the end of the first half causing us at least three points.-Which by the way, would have been the difference in the game-And of course, to top it off, a 63 yard field goal by a guy who probably won't even be in the league next year. This is the third game this year that my birds lost on the last play, and second week in a row. Oh, did I mention that Tampa Bay stinks! Their offense is got to be one of the bottom three in the league, and still they drove on a Jimmy Johnson defense to get the last score.

Yes folks I am bumming, and I don't see it getting better anytime soon. My man AI is about to make his 2006 debut with the Sixers, and I gotta say, that I am not smelling the playoffs for them either. Not to mention, the Flyers stink this year. Just fired their coach, and the GM resigned-what took him so long?- so even though damn near everybody makes the playoffs in the NHL, I gotta worry about them too. Geez, I feel like a New York winter sports fan all of a sudden.

And as if this weekend wasn't bad enough with the guys who get paid to play; did you see the way those "domers" came back on UCLA? I mean what the f^&% was their defensive coordinator smoking? You have to play cover two on their number one receiver-the guy that looks like he just landed from a slacker movie casting call. They made that fraud Brady Quinn look like Joe Montana, and for that, I will never forgive any of those soft ass Pac 10 teams.

Did anyone catch Michigan States comeback? Wow! Are those guys -State-schitzo or what?
I still think their coach should be fired. And speaking of firring coaches; Joe Gibbs has got to go back to NASCAR, this ain't his NFL anymore. Same goes for Art Shell, although I feel sorry for Shell, because he was way less talent than Gibbs does. Oh, and ditto for the guys in Detroit, Buffalo, and Baltimore. Yes Brian you have worn out your welcome.

I saw a recent poll, I think it was SI with the top receivers in College football, and my man, Sidney Rice from South Carolina wasn't on it. My question is, who makes up these things? Yes I saw Calvin Johnson from GT, and he is probably the best receiver in college football right now. But my man Sidney is number two, hands down. Or should I say hands up.

Will somebody please teach the Crimson Tide O linemen how to block?

THOUGHTS FROM SUNDAY

OK so my second favorite team in the NFL beat my favorite Sunday. I must admit, that it was like a mother having to pick between two sons who to cheer for. But some thoughts on that and some other games:

First, someone on the Eagles needs to get into Michael Lewis's face, and explain to him that his pro bowl trip was two years ago, and right about now he stinks in pass coverage. Yes he can still lay a bell ringer of a hit on you-see T.O. 's alligator arm when he saw him coming in that Eagles Cowboys game-but my man is seriously lacking in pass coverage. Also, Reggie Bush will be a nice player in the NFL, but he isn't the second coming of Barry Sanders, or even Tiki Barber or Warrick Dunn for that matter. My man had better bulk up and learn to run between tackles, and put a stiff arm or two into his repertoire, or he will be just another Dave Megett for the rest of his career. Nice player, but not worth all the hoopla.

And what the f%^& was San Diego thinking getting rid of Drew Brees, this guy is the truth. He owned the Eagles Sunday. He along with the DE Martin really stood out in my mind. And Joe Horn, was well, Joe Horn.

I see the officials robbed the Bengals, sorry Marvin, I think the league has it out for your team. Too many free spirits for their liking. Those officials ought to be locked up for robbery. If I were Bengals fan, I would be still writing letters to the Commissioner.

So a few teams got off the snide Sunday. The Lions, the Bucks, and the Titans. I have said this here before, but it bears repeating. Vince Young is not quite ready to start in the NFL, but he will win you a game here and there with his athleticism. Joe Gibbs should go back to NASCAR, because the game has passed him by.

One team that is still win less is the Raiders. You gotta feel for Art Shell. But damn it man, could you show us some more passion please? So Art will be the first coach to go in my book, and that clown in Buffalo shouldn't be far behind.

Finally, T.O. had three, count em, three T.D.'s in Texas Stadium, but before we start making his bust for Canton, it was the Texans. Still, it was nice of Bledsoe, and Parcells to recognize that they have to throw to T.O in the red zone. Nobody wants to get in the end zone more , and frankly, nobody does a better job of getting there. BTW, his form on the "snap" was perfect. See, that's what happens when you live in the "A", you get their dance moves down in no time.

OK so as any reader of my field negro blog knows, I like lists. So in keeping with my affection for such things I have decided to compile a list of the ten best uniforms in sports as of today, and some of the worse. I say as of today, because lately teams have been changing their uniforms so damn much, I can hardly keep up anymore. Now this lists includes all sports, and is not broken down by category. I know I know, maybe I should have broken it down , but I don't have time. Besides, a classic is a classic regardless of the sport. Also, this list is for professional teams only. I will do a college list later. So anyway, here goes:

The Best:

1. New York Yankees-And not just because they are in the news right now. Those pinstripes are classic, and that NY logo is one of a kind. When Yankees players suit up, it's like the equivalent of business men going to work on wall street. Yes the unis are conservative, but that's what's so beautiful about it. And it doesn't hurt that there are no names on the back, and so many great players have worn the pinstripes.

2. Dallas Cowboys-This hurts to have to do this. But for the same reasons I picked the Yankees and their classic unis, I have to go with the Pokes. Not only is it classic and timeless, but like the Yanks they have an unmistakable logo with that star on the helmets. Also, like the Yanks, having great players suit up over the years in your uni helps.

3. St. Louis Cardinals-Those birds on the baseball bat is priceless, and like the Yanks, the St. Louis logo on the hats are great and distinctive.

4. Los Angeles Lakers-That purple and gold just says showtime.

5. Chicago Bulls-Maybe it's because of Michael Jordon. Yes it's exactly because of Michael Jordon, but that uni seemed perfect for him. You gotta love the black and red color scheme, with that intimidating bull staring you down.

6. Detroit Red Wings-Gotta love those home red outfits. And like the Yanks and the Cowboys, tradition makes it look so much better.

7. Oakland Raiders- Silver and Black with the classic pirate on the helmet. This is the perfect football uniform. Too bad they stink this year.

8. Philadelphia Flyers- I know Orange isn't the greatest color for a uni, but that flyer logo is all that.

9. Minnesota Vikings- That purple and gold color scheme with a killer logo puts the Vikes in my top ten. What's with that purple and gold that makes it look so good?

10. Milwaukee Bucks-Maybe it was that whole Lew Alcindor thing, but I still love these unis.

Honorable Mention goes to the San Francisco Forty Niners,
The Detroit Tigers, The Denver Broncos, the New York Knicks, and the New York Rangers.

Now you may have noticed a trend with all my faves. All those teams are pretty much original teams, and all those unis have been around for awhile. So if you guessed that I am a traditionalist and I don't have much love for all the expansion team unis,you would be correct.

So here are five of my worst:

1. Carolina Panthers- Teal for a football team? Like what the f$%# were they thinking?

2. Charlotte Bobcats-Sorry Bob, you are a brother and I should be supporting you, but there ought to be a law against those unis that you gave those boys to wear.

3. Houston Rockets-I am still trying to figure out just what they were trying to do.

4. Houston Texans-Just because the team stinks doesn't mean the unis have to stink too.

Honorable Mention goes to the New England Patriots,The Denver Nuggets, and the Baltimore Ravens.

Was It Worth The Hype?

OK so T.O. finally came back to Philly with the hated Cowboys, and as much as I hate to admit it, the game itself lived up to the hype. Although T.O. himself was way less than stellar in his return to Eagle Country (3 catches for 45 yards and one alligator arm attempt) D-Mc was all that and some, and the defensive line was chasing feet of clay Bledsoe all day long. Still, at the end, Dallas was driving and had a chance to send the game into O.T., when Bledsoe or his tight end-not sure which one-caught a brain lock and threw a nice pass right into the hands of Eagles corner back Lito Shepperd. The rest, as they say, is history. All Lito did was take that bad boy 102 yards to the house, and the game was over.

So maybe it was worth the hype, maybe I was wrong about the game not making a difference in the season . If the Iggles can keep up the momentum from that game, they might be able to do something this year. I guess that Giants game thought them something after all. One of the players said it was the best loss they ever had, and he might be right.

Congrats to the Tigers for taking out the Yankees. A team, by the way, which I happen to like. I just couldn't root for them when they were playing possibly my favorite team in all professional sports. The gambler-Kenny Rogers-, Jeremy Bonderman, and the rest of the Tiger's pitchers deserve all the credit in the world. And I must say, that my man, A Rod, came up real small. Now the news out of New York is that the Boss has fired the Manager, Joe Torre, and is contemplating bringing back Lou Pinella. News flash George! It won't help, not until you get rid of that GM Cashman of yours, who keeps spending your money like a drunken sailor on over the hill pitchers. Yes Boss, you might want to put some of that money you have into developing your farm system, and bringing up some quality young arms like the Tigers did, and like the Atlanta Braves did a few years back to make their unbelievable run at Division Championships.

So sorry Yanks, no tears from the field negro for you; my Tigers are in it, and now it's time to focus on Oakland. Now if the Cards can just win the NL pennant, it will be 1968 all over again.
Where is Bob Gibson, Mickey Lolich, and Denny McClain when you need em?

Oh, and one more thing before. Do we need anymore proof that the heavyweight division is boxing is now a complete joke? I saw the latest circus act Don King trotted out the other night (a seven foot plus Russian) and the guy is supposed to be 43 and 0 or something. Now other than being the biggest heavy weight I have ever seen, the guy actually had some stamina, and some limited skills. But if this guy is a legitimate heavy weight champion, I am Mike Tyson. The only thing that saved him, was that his opponent was even worse. Folks, it's gotten so bad that my man Bernard Hopkins is thinking of coming out of retirement, putting on fifty pounds, and fighting for the heavy weight belt himself. And you know what? He just might be able to do it!

DEALING IN THE BRONX!

It's a beautiful thing! I hope everyone caught my man Justin Verlander dealing on the Yanks the other night. Yeah, that 103 MPH heat will get you every time. Along with my man Joel Zamaya-who was throwing darts in the triple digits himself-Verlander shut down the Yanks to help my Tigers even the series.

Now will this last? I doubt it. Jeter is too much of a gamer to let his team go down to the team he grew up with in nearby Kalamazoo Michigan. But you gotta love 21 million man Alex Rodhitless. Yes folks he took an 0-ffer again last night, and he heard the Bronx cheer every time he went to the plate. In case you were wondering, let me write what a Bronx cheer looks like for you. It looks something like this: Boooooooooooo!

By the way, congrats to the Oakland A's for sweeping those frauds from the Twin Cities. The A's have been playoff chokers themselves over the past few years, but this could be the year they make a serious run at the World Series Title. And to think they were in Philly once and we let them go and not the Phillies.

Now speaking of Philly. Folks my home town is all in a tizzy over T.O. coming back on Sunday. And I just don't get it. I mean this is all you hear in the office, on the street corner, on talk radio, and on television. And I am not talking the sports report. I am talking the lead story. "T.O. is back". It's enough to make an Eagles fan like myself reconsider cheering for this team. Memo to me fellow iggles fans. Calm the f%*& down please. THIS IS THE FIFTH GAME OF THE SEASON!!We might just want to wait until it's playoffs time before we get this pumped.

Somehow I don't think the folks in Big D are even getting worked up over this game, because they understand that it's just one game early in the season. I know T.O. rolled on us, and broke a lot of people's hearts. But get over that s#@%, he is gone now, and we can't bring him back. And yes the guy is a jerk, and he is weired and we would like to whup up on his new team. After all, the only thing we hate more than T.O. around here, is the Cowboys. And now we have a two for one deal going with him being a Cowpoke. BUT IT'S EARLY! And this has always been the problem with this town-especially when it comes to football-we play our Super Bowl when we play the Cow pokes, and they are just one of the fourteen other teams that we will have to play.

So to all my fellow fans in the "City of Brotherly Love" I say, calm down, take a deep breath, and if we lose Sunday we lose. If T.O. goes to the middle of the field, and spikes the ball in the middle of our Eagle's eyes; turn the other cheek. Because at the end of the day, the best revenge against T.O. and the rest of the boys. Will be holding that Pete Rozzele trophy in that convertible, as it rides down Broad Street.

Robbed!

So the "fightens" got jobbed last night in the nation's capitol -like what else did you expect- when my man Chase Utley hit a clear home run that hit the home run pole in that horrible excuse for a base ball park. The gutless or sightless-take your pick- first base ump called it foul, and shockingly, the Phils did not protest . Now here is the deal, the Phillies are now one game out of a wild card birth, and if they end up missing the playoffs by one game, folks here will be sick.

Now I must admit, that although I live in the city of "brotherly love" and have pretty much adopted all Philly sports teams, the Phils are my least favorite. I suspect, it has something to do with their history as it relates to blacks, and their penchant for putting a bad product on the field. Heck, like most black Philadelphians, I found myself cheering for the Blue Jays in that 1993 world series. I Just didn't like the Phillies make up of jolly rednecks, and their dearth of color. And when Joe Carter sent the "Wildthing's" pitch screaming over the wall, I was delighted.

But fast forward to this team. A team I like, and a team that deserves to at least make it to the playoffs since they have the best player in the National League this year in my man Ryan Howard. They don't deserve this, not when they have played their butts off to get this far. To not make the playoffs because of this call, would be a tremendous injustice to those kids on the team.

So back to the call. It was god awful, and it just goes to show why baseball needs to get into the 20th century and institute the instant replay like the other sports.-Even tennis has it for crying out loud! Now you know if that were the Yankees that got hosed like that, it would be all over the national news by now, and those umps would be in witness protection program somewhere. But it wasn't, and unfortunately, the only outcry you will hear is from Philly fans. And people in the rest of the country are tired of us now. We are kind of the boy that cried wolf, the rest of America just does not want to hear from a Philly fan, ever! We just have no credibility in their eyes.

Too bad, because what happened last night should never happen again even during a regular season game in July, let alone when a team is fighting for their playoff lives, with five games to go. Shame on you umps, shame on you MLB, and shame on the Philly's first base coach for not seeing the obvious. This one, like so many other disappointments for Philly's fans will hurt, but this time it wasn't some choke by the players, but instead, we can chalk it up to poor eyesight, or worse, a lack of guts.

Sports Rants

OK so the teams with the two best fight songs in college football hooked up yesterday, and Michigan put a good old fashion ass whooping on those domers. I must admit, I enjoyed it. I love seeing America's darling team the Irish get theirs, plus, I still don't like what they did to Ty Willingham. Brady Quinn looked totally clueless, and Michigan, as usual brought some speed demons to the wide out spot that had the domer corner backs a stepping slow all day.

Looks like a couple of teems got hosed on calls yesterday. LSU, and Oklahoma. Not too of my favorite programs, but fair is fair. I think LSU actually has a better team than Auburn, but that's a tough league -The SEC- and whoever comes out of there might have one or two losses and no shot at a National Championship. As for the Oregon game, that ball did not go ten yards on the on side kick, and those referees should have their eyes checked. Of course they were Pac 10 officials and the game was at Oregon, so a little home cooking looks like it was in order. Speaking of Oregon, I still don't know what to think of those uniforms.

Lets see now, speaking of the Pac 10. USC, looks like a decent team, but I don't think they have what it takes to go all the way this year. Their wide outs are first round picks, and they do have talent on both sides of the ball, but I am not a believer yet. Plus, their schedule is so soft.
I wonder if the NCAA will take away their 2004 National Championship because of the Reggie Bush cheating scandal? in my opinion, they should not, too many guys on that team busted their butts for that ring for it to be taken away for something that has been going on for ever.

Let me check the baseballs scores: OK nice, my Tigers hang on for a nice win. Two up on the Twinkies who also won. (I wish they would just go away). and five up on the pale hose. Huge three game series coming up with those hose. Hang on Tigers hang on!! It will be our first playoffs in 19 years if you do. I see the Phillies got a nice win. My man Cole was dealing, no hitter all the way into the sixth inning. I think they might actually have a chance, only because I think they will be able to pass the Dodgers. They can forget San Diego, too much pitching.
I am still rooting for the Giants and Barry, it would be nice to see Mr. Bonds -shaken not stirred- in the post season again.

Ahhhhh, the NFL. My iggles play the g-man today, all those obnoxious giants fans coming down the turnpike. I hope they behave themselves. Just because there is no more 700 level, it does not mean that there are not plenty of fans here who would love nothing more than to administer a good old fashion Philly ass whooping on them.

1. Tiger Woods- I might have some issues with Mr. Multi Cultural Man, but his golf swing ain't one of them. When it's all said and done, he will probably be the greatest to ever hit the little white ball.

2. Barry Bonds-Lots of hateration [yeah that's a word] out there against Barry. But even the haters have to admit, that his swing, steroid induced or not, is the best most have ever seen on a baseball diamond.

3. Roy Jones, Jr.,-His skills might have diminished somewhat, but when he was on top of his game, all the boxing purist agree that his swing helped to bring back the sweet science.

4. Floyd Mayweather, Jr., -Speaking of the sweet science. They don't call my man"Pretty Boy" for his looks.

5. Albert Pujoles-Lifetime BA of 331; nuff said.

6. Roger Federer- Read this blog and you will learn how I feel about this guy. IMHO, the best all around game ever, and his swing is magic.

7. Ken Griffey, Jr.,-Damn another Junior, and another deserving mention on this list. Juniors swing isn't far behind Barry's, so that tells you all you need to know.

8. Ernie Els-They don't call him "Big Easy" for nothing.

Honorable Mention goes to all the goons who swing for a living in the NHL. Because anybody that can skate, and dish em like that at the same time, deserves some props.

Just Another Sunday

Another Sunday of NFL football, and as usual, the field has some thoughts.

First and foremost, congrats to my iggles for a nice win on the road. Yeah I know it's Houston, but in the NFL, and on any given Sunday, well you know the rest. All sixteen games count in the no fun league, so it was nice to see the iggles win a game they could have lost. I have to admit, my man Donte Stallworth is the truth. I know it's just one game, but he seems to be on the same page with chunky soup man, so I might have to revise how many games I had the birds winning this season.

I hope Green Bay Brett realizes that it's time to hang it up. Lovie's Bears put an old fashion ass whooping on them, and in Lambeau no less. The Bears D is good. I think they will represent the NFC central again. And speaking of fraud QB's, I think Chris Simms is being exposed a little. His Bucs took an of er today too. I didn't like him at Texas, and I don't like him in the pros. And it is hard for me to rip him, because being one myself, I am partial to lefties. And while we are on former Texas QB's, I think Jeff Fisher made a mistake putting in Vince Young when he did. Vince is not ready for prime time. His day will come, but it wasn't today. You brought in Collins to do the job, stick with him until Young is ready please Jeff.

Mmmmm, let's see what else happened in week one of the no fun league. The pokes got beat by an underrated Jacksonville team. T.O. was, well, T.O., but he can't do it by himself, feet of clay Bledsoe will have to get some protect, and doe better than three interceptions, or it's going to be a looooong season for the pokes. I know here in Philly, the fans will lose their minds if the pokes can lose with public enemy number one T.O. on their team.

You will notice I am blogging and not watching the Manning show on NBC. That's because I am sick of them already. Memo to Peyton, win a big ball game just once in your life, and then maybe I will consider you an elite QB. Until then, you are just Archie's kid playing in a nice system.
Let's see how you do now that the "Edge" is in desert. Speaking of over hyped QB's, I see Mr. Vick's Falcons won a big ball game against one of the pre season favorites to go the Super Bowl, Carolina today. Thanks of course to my man Warwick Dunn. Now that guy [Dunn] has game, and I don't say that because he is a Baton Rouge guy. He really has been doing it for a long time, and he can break one from anywhere on the field at any given time.

Enough of football, let's talk baseball. My favorite team the Tigers, are about to do a serious choke routine. They just dropped three out of four to the Twinkies, and now they are in danger of not even making the playoffs at all. I know they are young but Jim Leyland had better earn his keep right about now.

Did you see what the D train did to the Phillies today? A Complete game three hitter. When you can shut down a line up which includes Ryan Howard, you are dealing. And I was wondering; just how much are they paying Pat Burrell again? That guy is brutal, and he is killing the Phillies. They ought to get him out of there now, before he costs them another game, or worse, a shot at the playoffs.

Yep, just as I said he would, Roger Federer beat Andy Roddick to win the U.S. Open. That's nine grand slams and accounting for probably -with apologies to Mr. Multi Cultural Man- the best athlete in his sport today. And speaking of tennis; am I the only one who wanted Agasi's long good bye to just end? I mean, he was a great player, but I just don't get the American sports fans love affair with certain athletes.

Oh, and before I forget, congrats to former bad boy, Bill Lambeir and the Detroit Shock for winning their second WNBA championship in three years. And was that Rick Mahorn I saw on your bench as one of your assistance? Bad boys for life huh Bill?

The field is out, I think I am going to sneak a peak at that Colts Giants game after all.

Sports Rants From The Field

I don't know, maybe it's because there is so much f#%^$d up stuff going on in the world, or maybe it's because it's football season. But lately, I find myself wanting to write more about sports and less about real serious s#%t. Like frat boys phony war on terror, young Americans still dying in Iraq.....ah I said I would only blog about sports, and by God that's what I will do.

Whew! I think I have some issues.

OK so this is my first official posting on FNsports my new blog dedicated to all things sports. [ Like I don't spend enough time blogging] I must confess, I love this blogging stuff.

So anyway, this is going to be nothing but rants on my part, because this is such a huge sports weekend here in these United States.

So where do I start? Well, I just saw those "white hats" [my name for Penn State] get their asses kicked by Notre Dame. That Charlie Weiss has made a believer in the field of his abilities. Now don't get me wrong, I still despise Notre Dame for the way the got rid of Ty Willingham, and I happen to know that a few racist boosters of that fine catholic institution were itching to get rid of him. [There I go already. What, three paragraphs into my new blog and I am calling out racism already] Still, the man can flat out coach. And since I don't particularly like PSU, [maybe it's the white hats] it was nice to see them get a good old fashion ass whooping.

Mmmm, let's see what else? Oh,big Texas OSU game tonight. Quite frankly, I don't know what the hype is all about. I don't think either team will be playing come new years day for the big one. I like OSU's QB a little bit, and Teddy Ginn, Jr., is a legitimate first round pick, but I just don't see OSU going undefeated. As for Texas, you just can't lose a Vince Young, and expect to bounce back the next year. Unless, you are SC of course. For my money, everybody better watch the aforementioned Notre Dame, and West Virginia, Florida, LSU, and Auburn will be right there as well. Not sure if anyone significant will come out of the left coast. I know SC is loaded, but I don't think they can play smash mouth football.

OK so what else, oh, Andy Roddick got into the finals of The U.S. Open against my man Roger Federer. Bye bye Andy it was fun while it lasted. I swear everybody is talking about the way Tiger is dominating his sport. And he is. But if you want to see real dominance, check out what Mr. Federer is doing on the tour. His game, in my humble opinion, is the best all round ever. And that includes Sampras, Agassi, Borg, and McEnroe. And I know a thing or two about tennis. [4.5 rating from the USTA thank you very much]

I see Mr. Bonds went yard again; that's 731 and counting. So all you haters out there, better fall back. Steroids or no steroids, Barry is the truth! And, the Giants are in the middle of a pennant race.

I heard some loser on one of my local sports radio stations [I will be talking a lot about them]try to diminish what Bonds has accomplished, and the guy sounded so hollow and pathetic that it was almost laughable. But what do you expect from some fat old overweight guy who, the closest he ever got, or will ever get, to that type of greatness, is writing or talking about it. Don't even get me started on those losers. [Sports journalist and talk show hosts]

Speaking of baseball, the Phililies have the next young super star in the game in Ryan Howard. I just hope these Philly fans don't destroy him. They have a way of doing that here. Especially to certain... ah ahm, field negro types.

Finally, good luck to my man Asafa Powell in Athens next week. Yeah Yawdie, you are the true and only world record holder. So big up!

Now the thing I like about sports is, performance doesn't lie. And tomorrow morning, if Roddick puts an ass whopping on Federer, or Auburn gets upset, the field will look like a complete moron. But hey, no one is perfect, and the field like everyone else, just has opinions. I just happen to be right most of the time :)

I wonder where the SU Jags play this week, I could use a nice half time show.
